When something like this happens (Woman grabbing your hand and commenting on ring etc) - it certainly sounds like a distraction tactic of a thief. Say in a loud voice - Please leave me alone and press your attendant button. If suspicious people are near you or commenting to you - get aggressive (while holding on tightly to your purse) and say - please leave me alone (in a loud voice). If they don't go away, immediate call out as loudly as possible something like "security" or "attendant" and whether person is thief or a obnoxious person they will go away.
Some general tips -
1. Don't wear expensive jewelry while gambling. (obviously there is nothing you can do about an expensive wedding ring, but if someone asks you about it - just say "its cubic zerconia - great fake isn't it!).
2. Never put your purse under your seat or hang on the back of your chair.
3. Dont put down your wallet on a counter or elsewhere, keep in your hand.
4. If possible put credit cards in a separate containerfrom wallet. Possibly divide your money into different compartmkents of your purse or different pockets.
5. When in your hotle room, double lock your door.
6. Keep valuables in safe or get a lock box from hotel.
(and dont forget to get them before checking out).
7. On street keep purse tightly in your poSSESion, not dangling from arm. Be aware of wallet in pocket and purse at all times. If someone tries distracting you like saying you have ketchup on your coat, or dropping money or items in front of you, be immediately aware of your purse and do not let them distract you. If someone moves up too close to yhou, move away and keep your purse tightly in, away from t hem.
In crowded situations such as fireworks, Mirage volcanos, etc., be aware of possibility of pickpockets and keep your valuables close to you.
8. IF a theft occurs in casino, report to hotel security and police. Your homeowners insurance may pay some. Demand that hotel security check any survelillance tapes to trace who did it so info can go to police. Also many thieves quickly discard purses and wallets - the tape may show what they did with yours.
