Announcement: Borgata to be Smoke-Free

Borgata Goes Clean Air

Borgata to be first Atlantic City casino to go 100% smoke-free
In an effort to best accommodate our customers -- smokers and
non-smokers alike -- Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa has submitted plans to
the NJ Department of Community Affairs (DCA) that will make the resort
the first 100% smoke-free casino in Atlantic City. To accommodate
smoking guests, Borgata will offer several outdoor lounges that will be
designated smoking areas. These outdoor spaces will offer guests a
comfortable, climate-controlled environment reminiscent of Borgata.

We feel this decision will best maintain the fresh, upscale atmosphere
associated with Borgata, while accommodating both smokers and
non-smokers alike.

Subject to NJ DCA approval, the plans will take effect in compliance
with the Atlantic City smoke free ordinance.

It's just a matter of time now: Casinos will soon realize that marketing the sizzle of non-smoking environments will easily (and profitably) trump the so-called "rights" of smokers, who are in the minority after all.

If we had a Nevada smoking law that actually leveled the playing field -- instead of the current one which just favors the big casinos in their quest to steal smokers from smaller venues -- we would already have smoke-free casinos in Vegas.

I just pray for the day when I can enjoy myself in a casino without coming home smelling like an ashtray. And this is from a live-and-let-live guy...

I am intrigued by these words in the press release:

"We feel this decision will best maintain the fresh, upscale
atmosphere associated with Borgata"

Wait till the tax revenue drops. Joliet has seen drops from 17 to 30% since
they went in Jan. Everyone is going to other states.

Now the state is hurting for money and talking of raise income tax and sales
tax.

I have to disagree.....Harrah's Joliet is as crowded as ever ....even with short pay vp machines and offers a smokers lounge. They will not be hurting at all.

Well, if nothing else, maybe we will not have to put up with the
following:

Went to sit down at the only available machine in the bank I like to
play on. I turned around and left and waited for another machien.
Why?

The coin tray (machines are now TITO) was full of ashes. There was
an ashtray in the coin tray that was filled to overflowing. In the
coin tray itself were 11 butts also (yes I counted them). On the
floor in front of the machine the ashes were about an inch deep. I
thought a volcano might have errupted and left the ashes.

I would not have been too wild about pushing those buttons until they
had time to "sanitze" either.

You can disagree all you want. Search google news for Harrah's Joliet and
you will find they are hurting. One of their slot attendants state they are
losing close to 1 million a day.

Sorry, can only tell what I hear.

And another smile on my face  !

Do you really believe a slot attendant sees consolidated daily numbers?

The problem in working with statistics is that they are just results, that is numerical info. The reasons are often complex. The economy is terrible for many, their are more and more casino options closer to home (Pa Slot Parlors),
for those who prefer to drive fuel costs are way up, and this is what needs to be examined when revenue doesn't go up or drops. Also, the population is finite as well. What is often left out is how much gambling is done by seniors who would not be alive if they still were smokers.

You don't have to believe the slot attendants. Do some searching on the
internet and you will find this to be true!

they don't make anything anymore. Both companies are now bankrupt and
