Ameristar Update

It is now official, Ameristar has ZERO full pay VP machines. The last
two -- the 5-play along the wall across from the buffet -- are now
history. They have been replaced by Game King multi-game with all
games short pay. There was almost no one playing VP, just a few on
the nickel machines, and this was Friday afternoon.

As a side note, it seems strange that people would ignore 98% VP
machines or 95% dollar slots and flock to the 86% penny slots. I saw
one woman feeding a penny machine the max bet -- $4.00 a pop! Oh
well, that's what keeps them in business.

They have also jacked up the buffet prices, lunch is now $12 each.
This follows along with the Ameristar corporate policy of juicing more
and more out of their customers. No promotions, cutting back on cash
back and bounce back, and tighter comps. Casino reports in the paper
shows them with less attendance but revenues are still there so their
scheme is working (so far).

We are anxiously awaiting the upcoming casinos on the Kansas side of
the river -- no boarding restrictions, no loss limits. Just hope they
have some decent VP machines.

Rick

AMEN! But I'm not so surprised to hear that the nickel VP machines
were in use. Playing 10-cent instead of nickel on them gives the same
pay tables that the quarter machines had/have. Short-pay, Yes. But
if I'm going to play short-pay, I'd rather do it for the lowest
denomination I can find!

There WILL NOT be a casino in Wichita nor anywhere in Sedgwick County.
The most likely location for this part of Kansas is going to be in
Sumner County about 35 miles south of Wichita on the Turnpike (I-35)
around Wellington. I think proposals from Developers have to be
submitted by Oct 1 for that location. I don't know anything about the
Kansas City location.

I don't understand why the Wichita folks voted the casino down. Oh
well, their loss.

No so in this area, it passed with about 85% approval. The first
thing to happen will be adding slots and VP to the Woodlands race
track. That will happen around the first of the year. Then comes a
destination resort/casino/hotel complex somewhere near the Kansas
Speedway (NASCAR track). Good for us, only about 20 minutes from our
house. The Speedway is the hot area in Kansas City right now. The
area already has a huge Cabela's, a Nebraska Furniture Mart, upscale
shopping center, T-Bone's baseball stadium, lots of restaurants, etc.

Just hope they come up with some decent VP.

Yeah, I didn't get that one either..... We live only a few minutes from
the dog track in Frontenac which will be expanding & reopening. As will
the dog track, I don't see the SE Kansas area supporting a
casino.....hopefully I'm wrong, but only adding slots at the track won't
help that much.

Now the full, destination casino near the MO & OK border should go over
real well......they should take some of the OK casinos business.

There are huge "morals" factors here in Wichita that have set
precedent. My anticipation is that had the Segwick County folks
approved a destination casino, the entrance would have been swarmed
with religious protesters just as was Tiller's clinic and other
facilities that performed abortions. Truly, I am relieved that it
didn't go through in Wichita. I think it failed by 45% for to 54%
against. Not overwhelming. And, the vote (a separate one) for the
slots at the Greyhound Park failed by only 254 votes or something like
that. Unfortunately, that negative win results in the Greyhound Park
closing down and 250 folks out of jobs. That part I thought was a
pure shame.

But if Kansas "does it right", I think that a Wellington/Sumner County
destination Casino will draw a lot of Oklahoma folks away from the
Indian Casinos down there. Hope so anyway!
