Alternate Strategies

Steve,

A few years ago I posted results here from what I called max-royal
strategy for 107/ DB. If you play 10/7 DB using the strategy for 101% DB
(5647 coin royal) the new EV is 100.08% and the royal cycle is reduced from
48048 to 35833. For 9/6 JB I used the strategy for 100% (3880 coins) to play
9/6 JB and reduced the royal cycle to 35939 with an EV of 99.51%. I just
noticed that this is the same royal value that you show for 9/6 JB min-cost.
Because these numbers match for 9/6 JB I was wondering if you looked at 10/7
DB? I find it interesting that we had different objectives and hit on the
same number. My method was crude. For each game I used 100% to 110% royal in
1% increments and compared the numbers.

I've done quite a few alternate strategies for 10/7 DB. But, none of the ones
I've tried give a royal cycle of 35833. The min-cost(royal) strategy has a
royal cycle of 50010 and the best-shot(royal) strategy has a cycle of 37138.
The best-shot(royal) strategy gives the best chance of having a bankroll
survive until hitting a royal, while the min-cost(royal) strategy loses the
least amount on average between royal flush payoffs. If your objective
was something different than one of those, let me know and I'll see if I
can produce a solution.

I find it interesting that we had different objectives
and hit on the same number. My method was crude. For each game I used 100%
to 110% royal in 1% increments and compared the numbers.

I know of several cases where different objectives result in the same
strategy. One example from DB 10/7 is playing to minimize the average
cost between payoffs for quad 2's, 3's or 4's. The optimal strategy for this
objective is identical to max-EV strategy!
