All this talk about smoking...

As far as I am concerned, if you outlaw smoking in casinos, you should
outlaw gambling, drinking and prostitution as well.

Only problem, as has been stated often, is that gambling, drinking and
prostitution by YOU doesn't adversely affect MY health.

This subject line keeps me waiting for a Emily Litella-ish post of:

"What's all this talk about stroking in casinos?!"

and

prostitution by YOU doesn't adversely affect MY health.

Second Hand drinking doesnt adversely affect YOUR health? MADD would
disagree. Taken directly from their website...

"In 2002, an estimated 17,419 people died in alcohol–related traffic
crashes—an average of one every 30 minutes. These deaths constitute 41
percent of the 42,815 total traffic fatalities."

Im guessing 17,419 is just 1 or 2 more than died from second hand smoke
last year but lets not let facts cloud an already emotional discussion.

I finally have to chime in on this subject.

Drunk driving is dangerous.
Drunk driving is a crime.
Drunk drivers should be severely punished.

All of the above are facts that would be difficult to dispute.

Smoking is dangerous.
Second hand smoke is dangerous.
Smoking is not a crime in Las Vegas Casinos.

All of the above are facts that would be difficult to dispute.

Logic will not allow you to come to the conclusion that all people that drink, become drunk drivers.
If that were so, the carnage on the roads would be like downtown Baghdad.

Prohibition was tried and it did not work.

Back to smoking.

If you smoke it may kill you, or others around you.
A smoker or second hand smoker may succumb to a horrible and lingering death.

A non smoker who never gets near any second hand smoke will eventually die, sad but true.
He/she may very well also succumb to one of the many other diseases or cancers that get you as you get older.

Not too many people die from old age, most go from something else.

I believe that as a group that there is a higher proportion of smokers that are also gamblers, than any other definable group of
smokers. I also believe that the number of smokers among the group of gamblers is shrinking (more people quitting, less people starting) .

I believe that as time progresses more casinos will develop larger non smoking sections or non smoking floors.
I believe that Las Vegas will be the last refuge of the smoker in the U.S.

I used to be a 4 pack a day smoker when I was gambling. I no longer smoke .

Can we now dump this topic and go back to gambling, comps and all the other good stuff that we are all on this forum for.

A.P.

I'm quite sure that Karen was referring to "social drinkers", who
imbibe in moderation, rather than judgement/driving impaired drunks
who cause the accident statistics you have quoted from MADD (a VERY
worthy organization that has my utmost support).

Bravo, Albert, well said!

I agree with all your well thought out comments (including dumping
the topic).

I was "only" up to 3 packs a day when I quit, almost 20 years ago.
I soon realized that I really COULD enjoy VP even W/O a cigarette
dangling from lips.

So it is only hard core alcoholics who get liquored up and get behind
the wheel? Since the broad stroke was already made that all smokers
are ignorant morons who force their smoke on all who come near, why
arent all who drink painted with the same brush? It is because most
people drink, at least occasionally and dont want to admit that THEIR
behavior is in any way wrong but are perfectly willing condemn the
minority of smokers. Perfect example... the guy who admits he drinks
often, has done drugs and purchased whores but repeatedly has said
that all smokers are stupid losers who should die a horrible death.
Absolutely amazing! In an effort to let this discussion die, I will
not post any further but I will end with this. He who is without
sin...

Brothers and Sisters, can I get an AMEN? How about a haliluah? Albert, if
you will notice, I actually posted something related to video poker on this
video poker site, imagine that. Now that I look, it looks like you and I
were answering the same question. Sorry, I did not see yours until I sent
mine. However, in keeping with the spirit of what seems to be the hottest
inane topic of the month, I did do my part. When I was done with my post, I
walked out on the patio and sucked down a Marlboro Light while swea..., uhh
fuc..., uhh, fondly thinking of all of our members.
