Air races

I will be going to Reno for the first time for the air races next
month. Looking at the database game selections, I would be
comfortable playing at either Atlantis, Silver Legacy or Reno Hilton.
Does anyone know of a promo around the air races at any of these
casinos? I will play at least 20K per night for the 3 nights I will
be there. I would like to hear your recommended choice out of those 3
casinos. I like to eat, drink martinis and play multiplay VP, in that
order<G>. I just joined this forum, and have certainly enjoyed
reading some of the trip reports posted.

With 20K per day, you can get FULLY comped at any of the 3

casinos. My personal preference for playing is the Silver Legacy.
They have the best vp inventory by far. My 2nd choice would be the
Atlantis. The Pepp has just pulled way too many advantage machines
for me to patronize them anymore. They WERE my casino of choice for
many years but no longer.
However, since you put food first, IMHO, The Pepp has the best
restaurants. The White Orchid (VERY expensive) is outstanding and
Oceano (Good seafood) and Romanza (Exc ellent Italian) are both as
good as you'll find in Reno.
I would suggest calling a host BEFORE your arrival, to arrange for
your room & comps. At the SL, Carl Grassi is very nice.
Hope this helps. Good luck!

I'm gonna disagree, I don't think the Peppermill was ever that great,
and now that they are in financial trouble over mismanagement of
Oceano construction their offerings (including food) continue to
degrade on a daily basis. Peppermill will probably be the next Reno
casino to go belly up (because of Thunder Valley, etc.).

I'm going to defer to your superior restaurant critic expertise

(though I do like the PEPP buffet also). I usually stay in the
casino, plugging away at vp 10-12 hours per day, so I'm not familiar
with the local eating establishments. When my eyeballs start
spinning, I try to sleep.

I was surprized by your financial prognastication regarding the

PEPP. Is this something you read? Though I have about given up on
playing there, I would be interested in what you've learned.

Thanks.

best sushi: sushi pier, sushi club

Could you give me an address for these? I presume they are not in a casino.
Thank you so much for this list; we are going to Reno from RI in 10 days and
were wondering about food there. This list is a big help. a general
address will do, just the street name and we will find it. We love sushi!!!

best pho (noodle soup): pho777

Can I assume that this place has other offerings? Mike also told us this
place was good. We have the address.

best coffee shop type diner: black bear diner

Is this in a casino? Where can we find it?

best chocolates: washoe chocolate nugget

You guessed it, we love chocolates too. Is this a casino?

best basque food: louis basque corner

We would like to go here. Is it open for lunch?

closest waterfalls: carson king's canyon

Do you mean in Carson? as in, Carson City?

Thank you so much for this great list!!! Annie and husband Charlie

See http://www.sharkfeeder.com/sushi.html for more sushi details. My husband and I personally prefer Aloha Sushi, on Moana right off of 395. But there are lots of good sushi places in Reno. One of the best -- and most expensive -- is Kokopelli's, at Circus Circus.

Silver Legacy's buffet is only mediocre, in my opinion, except for the Sunday buffet at Sterlings. For a day-to-day buffet, Atlantis is good. Peppermill's lunch buffet is going downhill; I took some relatives there last weekend, and I was disappointed in the selection. They thought it was great, though, and they loved the waterfall display.

WOW ... the Peppermill going "belly up"? That would be a major story
(but they would likely still remain tops in the Casino Player "best
of" poll <g>) ... are things really that bad there?

SL buffet: FWIW, I've always had this one pegged at "ordinary." I'd
rate Atlantis (or Eldorado) higher ... but these are matters of
personal taste (literally)

SL food lines (buffet or CS): comps come with a line pass. To
avoid "cutting-in" and offending those in line, enter at the EXIT and
an employee will arrange immediate seating.

it is a pho place ... pho is a meal in itself believe it or not, it's
a big bowl, but they do have some other noodle type dishes, hard to
describe if you've never been to a pho (vietnamese) restaurant, but
highly recommended, i would start with the chicken option, there are
also beef options and tripe options
chicken pho is a large high quality chicken noodle soup (broth and
noodles are handmade)

nope, you can find it in yahoo yellow pages

You guessed it, we love chocolates too. Is this a casino?

nope, about 15 minutes south on hwy 395, hard to miss (in washoe
valley between reno and carson)

We would like to go here. Is it open for lunch?

not sure, may just be open for dinner
it's casual, rustic?, but good food, good chance to socialize, family
style dining, basques are famous sheepherders from mountains between
spain and france

> closest waterfalls: carson king's canyon
Do you mean in Carson? as in, Carson City?

yup
it's a little one, about 10 ft. but recent big fire there (waterfalls
fire)
the big tahoe falls is eagle:

I just got back from the SL and found the buffet to have improved. I, too, used to think it was mediocre.

Dinner and breakfast, twice each. For dinner I had Lamb chops, Short ribs, Salmon, and Lemon chicken. My only complaint was that the same items are there every night except Fri and Sat. There is enough variety for 2 or maybe 3 dinner buffets, though.
