Ad-aware is an excellent tool for finding and cleaning out this
stuff. You can get it at lavasoft.de It is free.
If you want just about any tool/utility you can think of if you go to
webattack.com they undoubtedly have it in Freeware, Sharware or
purchase this includes all types of pop-up blockers.
If you have a broadband connection and want to enhance it go to
dslreports.com I found this site from Comcast. When they doubled
their bandwidth earlier this year in the Dallas area, my bandwith
stayed the same (about 1.2-1.3 meg). When I called Comcast about it,
the technician referred me to dslreports.com and said to run the
speed and tweaks tests and take their recommendations. Worked like a
charm. My bandwidth when to 2.7 meg with an upload of 240 KBS, so it
all basically doubled as they were advertising. It seems that
windows (at least 98 like I have) has a default RWIN setting that is
too low for 3 meg bandwidth.
The computer geeks (knowledgable PC people) actually love to show
their brillance. You can look at their forums and if the answer
isn't already there, if you post a request someone will tell you how
to solve it.
