Advice

After staying at the Palms eight of our last nine Vegas trips I was just
told we could not get a room for April 29 to May 1st. Was told the "hotel
was sold out" because of the Kentucky Derby. We average $24-30k/day coin in
and have always had a limo to/from airport, our rooms comped upfront plus
some meals. Used points for all other meals & healthclub. This was somewhat
of a shock since I view us as very "low maintenance" guests.

Now since we really don't have a relationship anymore with another property
we need some advice on where to stay and play. We play 10/7 DB, FPDW and 3/5
play NSUD and DB. All in the $0.25 to $1 level. Like to have a workout in
the morning and a nice dinner.

Over the past 2 years have stayed at GVR (liked it) but seemed comps were
tough, Orleans (didn't like it) and Suncoast( used to frequent there until
they demolished the VP inventory).

Was thinking of trying the Golden Nugget since we never stayed downtown but
from the database they don't seem to have the games we play.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Its difficult to find a upscale casino that also has good games to
boot...can't think of any in Las Vegas...doubt if you would find the
Las Vegas Club or the El Cortez to your liking.

Have you thought of going to Reno? I was at the Silver Lagacy last
summer and it was pretty good, and they have $1 10/7 DB with a
progressive royal. At your level of play, you should have no problems
getting full comps. I still get offers from them and the El Dorado
(next door).

Jay,

This is a tough one. My first choice would have been GVR for 10/7,FPDW, and DDB, but you already knocked that one out. Downtown has some excellent play, however, the best play in my opinion is MSS and the Four Queens. Both of these properties offers $.25 and $1.00 FPVP.

I do not believe that the digs of either would measure up to what you are use to at the Palms. I have never stayed at the Four Queens, but I do play there. I do stay at the MSS, a property that does comp my stays, but there are train tracks near by and depending on where you are located in the hotel could bother you when trying to sleep.

Good luck in finding your new Casino Home,

David

I stayed at 4Q in December & am scheduled there at the time
mentioned : 4/29-5/1. Was tough to even get in there at Casino rate
due to the Derby. I found the room fine in Dec but then I am also
staying at El Cortez for part of this next trip (& many prior 1s) so
they may disqualify my opinion with for some

Jay, Maybe you should look at Sam's Town. Not as opulent as the places
you usually stay, but they do have pretty good V.P. They also have free
shuttles to various parts of the Strip and Downtown. It's sort of a "low
rollers" place. Dick McK.

I second the Reno recommendation. We've stayed at the Atlantis a
couple of times and keep getting good offers from them, with a
history of not all that much play. (I did get one interesting royal
flush there, on a five-cent progressive where full coin in was $1 a
hand. It was weird, but the progressive was up to a little over $1K,
so I won as if I were playing $1.25 a hand.) You can upgrade your
room so that you are staying in a VIP area with a lounge that has
continental breakfast, internet access and other things. There is a
lovely spa-health club included in the upgrade-- I think you pay by
the day if you go at the regular rate. The other casinos people have
named are probably better in terms of inventory, though.
