[acvpp] VP Marathon

Howdy

Yesterday I was at Trump Plaza in AC on the JB .25 Prog. When I sat down it
was around 1020. I was there from 3 PM to 1 AM in the morning. When I left it
was at about 1260 (that's tax land folks!) I sat through a myiad of chain
smokers. My lungs may never forgive me.. I am sensitive to smoke and coughed up
a storm. I know I could have played in the East Tower smoke free section but
there are no progressive JB there.

I decided last night it AIN'T worth the few extra hundred bucks I may win in
"smokeyland". I am heading back to the the East Tower. I woke up with a
scatchy throat and a voice resembling a fog horn (any other maschosist out
there?).

My question to you my captive audience is ...What is the longest session you
have ever endured and how did you come away feeling about it?

I am a smoker, but always ask if it would annoy anyone to my immediate right
or left when I sit down. Just because it is a smoking section, doesn't mean
that you have to smoke.

OG............ 6 hours straight with no breaks (not many smokers around). Would not do it again since I felt like I was in a trance toward the end. The only saving grace was that I was ahead! Normally, I break about every 2 hours.

It's amazing the charge a winning session can yield. You can start to
feel that you can do no wrong and only a fool would break the session

Another inducement to extended play is when there's only one or two
good machines in a casino and you're lucky enough to secure a seat.
The more I sense envious players circling the more I'm motivated to
hang on for yet another hour, figuring I may not get another shot.

I'm feeling my age these days. I once was good for 4 hours at a
stretch, but I start getting a little itchy after just 2 these days --
especially if the meter's been going south. Anything exceeding 3
hours is pretty rare ... my head just starts fogging over too quickly.
About the time I realize I've dropped the second of two pair, or
pulled a similar move, I'm smart enough to give the play a rest.

A recent promotion motivated 10 hours of play in a 12 hour period a
couple of weeks ago. If there's such a thing as a play hangover, I
suffered it the next day. (And I won't touch on the rather mystical
series of hands that played out in my head as I laid my head down on
the pillow that night -- of course, a late-night pre-dinner drink and
a shared bottle of wine likely fed that delusion

People think because we live in Las Vegas we play VP all the time. Actually our play hours per day dropped as soon as we had our own place and didn't have to "play for a room." And it has kept dropping the older we get. Most of the time we play about 2-hour sessions. After 2 hours we get weary. 3 hours we are exhausted. 4 hours we are wiped out - even if on our beloved Multi-Strike.

Furthermore, we don't play every day. Tom plays more than I do, probably on about 5 days a week. But the reason for that is that I send him out to pick up bounce-back when he can pick up mine and his and save me a trip out. I like to stay home and write and relax about 3 days a week. We find that playing less keeps VP more interesting when we do play.

Who is Tom and how can someone else pick up your bounce-back?

Oops - I did it again. Brad's real name is Thomas Bradley. Tom is what I call him. When he is with Jean Scott he is Brad Scott!!!!

At some casinos, bounce-back comes in the form of free-play that can be downloaded and played off at the machine if you have the person's password. I trust Tom and Brad with mine! Also, there are a few casinos where we have a long history of play and slot club people know us very well - and they will give bounce-back to either one of us for the other.

By the way, one neat thing at the Rampart. You can sign a paper there allowing someone else to "do business" on your slot club account. Therefore Brad and I can pick up each other's cashback, bounce-back cash, etc.

Thanks,Jean. I'm not as confused now.

And I thought that you were fortunate enough that Tom was your and
"Brad"s minion for all those coupon runs ...

... come to think of it, have I ever slipped up and referred to Bev as
"Howard" (that's another story ...)

- H.

That just about sums up how I feel. I do play every day, but I rotate
casinos, and keep the sessions to under 3 hours. Any longer and I find
myself getting irritated with all the little nuisances in the casinos
(smoke, noise, rude people, etc.). Or maybe it's the alcohol that has
kicked in after a couple of hours.

Harry ........ Your comments hit my experience closely.

  - I was playing DDW at El Cortez.

  - I waited about 2 hours to get on a DDW machine (100.92% but a killer variance) the first day(only 5 such machines).

  - No royal but 2 4-deuces ($500 each :<) ), one on the 6-hour session and another the next day. I was down about $300 for the 3-day Cortez gaming. Babe, you made up for me on your last trip!

  - One of the inducements for the long session was to get enough points at Kitty's Restaurant (awsome steak dinner).

Where was the promotion that you were aiming for?

Bob
