[acvpp] One Last Diamond in a Day Question

From: sbenjami@radford.edu
If you earn the Damond in a Day, how long is that status valid? I heard

six

months somewhere. Is that correct? Steve in VA

Here's my DIAD experience. Sorry if this is too repetitious with what others
have posted, but information is a good thing, & maybe there's something here
that'll help others.

I got my original DIAD at Harrah's Reno. I had to spend quite a bit of time
explaining it to the people at the desk before I found one who understood
about the option to get Diamond with one day's play (in Reno, it was 2000
points). Once I was assured it was available, I put through my 2000 points,
then had to talk to several people at the desk again till someone understood
& gave me my Diamond card. I was told that it'd be good till then end of
2005, with a 3 month "grace period," so I'd have to hit 10,000 base points
by March 2006 to extend to the end of 2006.

No problems through 2005, except one small thing. When I tried to get a
Borgata (Atlantic City) Black Card based on this Diamond status, I was told
that they require a premium card in Atlantic City, not Reno. So I should
have gone to Harrahs (or Showboat) A.C., had them issue me a Diamond card
for that location, then gone to Borgata. The Borgata host eventually
relented and gave me my Black Card anyway.

Then in January 2006 I went to the desk in Harrahs Reno and asked about
extending my Diamond for the rest of the year. At first they said that
didn't make sense, since I already had a Diamond Card. I explained that I'd
been originally told that it would expire in March 2006. Then she did some
checking and yes, so I asked what I had to do. She didn't even mention
anything about 10,000 points in a year. She just said that if I did 2000
points in ANY 24-hour period I'd get my Diamond extended. (Sounds fishy, so
I made sure to get my 2000 during a 6am-6am period.)

It took me between 4 & 5 hours of $1 JOB to reach the goal. I believe I
bottomed out at -$400 or more before I started hitting some quads, and near
the end I hit a SF ($250) to put me ahead $200 for the whole thing. I went
back to the desk (they'd told me I had to check with them again after
earning the points), and the guy said he had to do something manually, write
my name on some list, & assured me that when the end of March comes, they'll
issue me a new card that's good for the rest of the year.

As for the benefits... I do like the special lines to the buffet etc, &
special check-in area. I've gotten many offers for Reno, but few to other
locations. The Reno offers are mostly free rooms and food, also stuff like
slots tourneys which are fun and slightly valuable (I'm guessing there were
~$20K of prizes for at least 500 participants). They've also sent me free
cash for showing up, as much as $70 at a time. As far as other locations:
I've found that as a Diamond, one time I was told that Harrah's Las Vegas
was booked, but when I talked to a host (over phone) who looked at my
Diamond status, he gave me a free offer (& that was for a holiday weekend).
Similarly, at Harrah's Reno, when I've tried to book a free room & was told
it wasn't possible, talking to the host got me the freebie.
