AC Trip Report

Hi Gang:
It was another interesting ... and surprising ... weekend at Harrah's AC for
Hedy and me with a historic twist at the end.
First, some non-VP talk.
Harrah's is sponsoring the World Series of Poker Circuit Event from Dec. 8
through 18th, so I jumped into Event No. 1 Friday, a $300-plus-$40 no-limit
Hold 'Em tourney which attracted 1,181 entries. I ran my original $5,000 stack
up over $40,000 but wound up finishing 162nd (they paid the top 99 places)
after about 10 hours of play.
The highlight for me came after the dinner break when I looked down at
pocket aces and had TWO people push all-in in front of me. One guy had pocket
fives, the other pocket jacks. I had both covered and the suspense ended quickly
when an ace hit the flop. That pot was worth about $15,000 to me.
I eventually got knocked out when a woman with a huge stack flopped trip
kings on me when I held ace-ten of hearts and the flop came over ace-king-trey,
with one heart. The turn was the queen of hearts, giving me a flush draw and
an inside straight draw, but the eight of spades ended my tournament.
The good news is that while I was playing in the tournament upstairs, Hedy
was rolling right along on the VP machines downstairs, winning back my entry
fee plus. She hit aces (no kicker) on DDB for a dollar ($800) and aces with a
kicker on 50-cent DDB for $500.
Saturday we played a lot with a 7X RC multiplier and held our own, hitting
aces twice more for $400 each, but the crowning achievement came the next
morning.
We didn't want to put a lot of money at risk since we had a decent profit
for the weekend, so we dabbled a bit on the bank of machines where we usually
play JOB and DDB. We had given back about $200 of our profit when, suddenly, I
heard Hedy say next to me, "What's this ... oh, my God! A royal! Dealt!"
Sure enough I looked over and saw the Q-J-K-A-10 of spades with the word
"held" sitting over each card. Her second $2,000 royal in two weeks! And,
strangely enough, this was only the second dealt royal of her career (I've had
seven). Her first one was a pip, of course, on the top line of Multi-Strike for
$8,000. But that one had come about six or seven years ago. So, she was really
eagerly awaiting this one!
That put a capper on another weekend of good fortune and as we go into the
final weeks of 2008 we find ourselves perilously close to the break-even mark
for the year (including cash back). That's quite a turnaround from a
disastrous 2007.
Anyway, we'll be back at it this weekend at Harrah's and I'll probably take
another stab at a circuit event tourney. As long as Hedy's there to win back
my entry fee, why not!!!
Regards,
CoachVee (Tom V) & Hedy
