AC Trip Report

Hi Gang:
After returning from our semi-successful seven-night trip to Las Vegas, Hedy
and I were right back on the VP frontlines last weekend at Harrah's, our
home property in AC. We drove down late Thursday (Thanksgiving) night to pick up
some bonus cash that was only good for that day and arose bright and early
the next morning to take advantage of the 8X Rewards Credits Harrah's was
offering Friday.
We played just about even throughout the morning, mostly on 9/6 JOB at the
half and dollar level and 9/6 DDB at the 50-cent level. Then, we took a break
to go over to the Borgata to pick up another $50 in bonus cash plus the
over-$300 in slot dollars we had earned during our pre-Vegas trip when the Borg was
offering 5X cashback.
Since bonus cash and slot dollars have to be played through at the Borg we
tried to stick to 9/6 JOB to collect as much as we could, but our luck wasn't
very good and we were only able to pull out $287 from the machines.
Back at Harrah's, that bad luck turned around quickly.
We were playing at our usual haunt, the two end machines on the left at the
bank of 9/6 machines near the Xhibition Bar, when we encountered a
scintillating 10 minutes of VP euphoria.
I was playing dollar jacks and Hedy was playing 50-cent DDB with our
bankrolls holding pretty steady thanks to a quad here and there and a dealt straight
flush for me.
Hedy then said to me, "You know what, I've never hit aces for dollars
playing DDB. I'm going to go for the gusto."
"Pretty gutsy," I said.
Well, she put in a $100 bill and played it down to her final $10 when she
held a pair of aces and, lo and behold, the other two aces popped up
accompanied by a lovely, little deuce. Her machine locked up, music started to play and
Hedy let out a scream. A $2,000 score!
Then, she turned to me and said in an excited voice: "No guts, no glory!"
I guess so.
After getting her hand pay, she switched back to the 50-cent level and no
more than five minutes later I heard her let out another high-pitched scream. I
looked over and saw on her screen the K-Q-A-10-J of hearts ... a royal and
another $2,000 hand pay! She had held just the K-Q and drew the other three.
Unbelievable!
After much celebration and another hand pay we went back to work and I
switched to dollar DDB to join in the fun. A few minutes later, I held a pair of
aces, got two more and an eight for another $800 hit. In no more than 10
minutes of play, we had three major hits for a total of $4,800!
It was truly a memorable run and we wisely cashed out a few minutes later to
plot our strategy for the rest of our stay. That strategy was to hold onto
most, if not all, of our windfall and I'm happy to report that we did just
that.
So, in one fell swoop, we wiped our Vegas loss and positioned ourselves to
finish calendar year 2008 with one of the best won/loss numbers we've had in
years. And it all happened in a flash!
Regards,
CoachVee (Tom V) & Hedy
