Hi Gang:
Hedy and I didn't hit a royal this weekend in AC (man bites dog!) but we
survived with just a manageable triple-digit loss while pushing through just
over 50K at Harrah's. We rode the rocky roller-coaster known as 50-cent DBDJ for
three days, but managed to hit aces three times for $400 and some other $200
bonus quads along the way to keep us in the game.
We also tried one of the rooms in the new tower and were singularly
unimpressed. The flat-screen TV was nice but the room was on the smallish side and
dark, the bathroom was smaller than the ones in the Bayview Tower and did not
have a bathtub. It was also much more difficult to connect to the internet
using our laptop in this room.
They probably have nicer rooms in that tower (we guessed this was just a
standard room) but we will stick to the Bayview Tower rooms in the future with
an occasional stay in the Atrium Suites.
Other Harrah's tidbits:
-- The new food court near the indoor pool features a Ben & Jerry's, Primo
Pizza, Philly Pretzel factory and a sandwich/salad place. The good news is
that the food is very good and comps can be used there 1-for-1. If you are
staying at LFB or RFB, they are included.
-- The new Waterfront Buffet, in our opinion, has gone steadily downhill
and is merely adequate for lunch and dinner. We like their breakfast servings
but we thought the old FantaSea Reef Buffet was much better and offered more
perks for diamond and Seven Stars guests. As a comparison, we ate at the
Virginia City Buffet at Bally's Saturday while taking care of some business at the
boardwalk and it put the Waterfront Buffet to shame. The Borgata Buffet, in
our opinion, is still the best in town.
-- We saw the Debbie Gibson Show recently and it is definitely worth seeing.
She is a high-energy entertainer and her mix of popular songs and Broadway
tunes kept us smiling throughout.
-- Harrah's may be cutting back on a lot of things but our mailbox has been
flooded recently with cash coupons ranging from $40 to $100 for various
weekend days over the next two months. This Saturday we have a $100 coupon, next
weekend we have a $75 and a $50, plus there is a $200 Tower of Cash promotion
on May 31 where you have to earn a certain amount of credits to get the money.
This is in conjunction with a number of Reward Credits multiplier days, so
Harrah's seems to be loosening the purse strings in certain areas.
-- Our host told us recently that the Harrah's Corporation would soon be
using the Caesars name as an umbrella for its properties. We're not sure if that
means the Harrah's name will go the way of the West, but he said a number of
new properties would sport the Caesars name instead.
Another interesting thing we saw as we drove into town was a billboard
proclaiming that Trump Plaza would soon be offering live poker on PokerPro
machines. This confirms what a host told us a couple of months ago and is something
we posted on this board.
Anyway, Hedy and I will be celebrating our 10th wedding anniversary this
Friday at Harrah's with dinner in the steakhouse. I'll be playing in a WSOP
warm-up event Thursday as we spend three days in town.
Regards,
CoachVee (Tom V) & Hedy
