A word of thanks...lots of reading and thinking ahead

I want to thank all of you who did (and who may, in the future)
respond to my recent inquiry. All of the comments I will read and try
to digest. I am sure that most, if not all, of your comments will go
far to raise the curtain of ignorance and uncertainty that I have had
about this subject.

I have learned a lot from this group, early on, as to how to play and
where to play. The recreational aspects have been GREAT. It is not a
stagnant subject, of course, and one must evolve with Las Vegas as it
changes right before our eyes, sometimes for the better, sometimes for
the worse. What a difference exists between our present visits and
that first visit to LV several years ago. I almost cringe, thinking
back to how we picked machines to play and how we actually played.
UGH! Almost embarrassed to say.

Over the past months I have also enjoyed the "social chatter" at this
site and have never held back from sending on my own feelings and
comments (although some of you, at times, may have wished that I had
held back <smile>).

Now, with a little work on my part, I may be able to start
understanding the why's and wherefore's, as I read your comments.

Thank you, again. I hope to retain a long, pleasant and fruitful
realtionship with this interesting and (for the most part) thoughtful
group.

It's a swell group, isn't it? :slight_smile:

Bear in mind that the best way to intelligently enjoy vp is to keep it
simple. Statistical considerations are for those of us who are
frustrated that we can't find greater application of higher math
skills when we're balancing our checkbook, driving a car or using an ATM.

For myself, when it comes to game variance from a practical viewpoint,
I simply look at variance for an expectation of relative game "ride".
I prefer lower (smoother), others get a kick from higher.

Working from a finance perspective (we are dealing with money here,
right?), I pretty much demand a higher ER when I tackle a game with a
variance greater than that of Jacks.

The simple things that we have learned here are exactly what we (my
wife and I) have been using to (successfully) have fun while playing
VP in LV. There is always that special satisfaction that comes
from kind of knowing what you are doing (LOL..most ??? of the time,
maybe) and striving to play as well as one can (within reason and
not being overly anal). My recent question was for quiet times
between LV visits, where I might try to get a better understanding
of what is happeing and where the simplifications are made. I guess
we all have a thirst for knowledge and better understanding.

Yes, we try to stay with the lower variances as well. Also, we keep
the number of different games that we play withing reason.
Switching back and forth too often results in a greater number
of "senior moments" as we age. LOL.
