Well, after >15 losing trips in a row to vegas &/or laughlin ...
finally a winning trip!! I can now not proclaim that I am the most
unluckiest gambler ever.
Left home on Sunday around 2pm and arrived at the edgewater in
laughlin right around 5:45pm. Traffic was pretty much non-existant
and didn't see any cops the whole way. Had my radar detector on and
barely heard a beep. Check-in went quick as I was third in line.
Requested and received a river view room in their newer tower. My
deal was for three free nights & if I put 40 points on my card in
one day, I get $25 cash back.
After unpacking, went donw and played some deuces bonus poker but,
didn't hit any really good paying 5 of a kinds so, I lost ~$60 in
short order. Checked back at the One club and found I earned my 40
points, so I got my $25 cash back. It's $10 per point, so this was a
good deal. Moved next door to the Colorodo Belle and played at the
shooter's bar with the progressive royal. This is a great little bar
with plasma TVs and progressive full paying machines. I didn't play
much if any 9-6 JOB this trip and instead went for the deuces NSUD.
Played a while and pretty much held my own when I decided to take a
break. Grabbed a personal pan at Noble Roman pizza on the second
deck. After losing ~$150 or so, moved back to the edgewater. Decided
to play at the river's edge bar with loose deuces. These pay 2500
quarters with 5 coin in. My goal was not to lose too much more
tonight so, I played 2 quarters at a shot. Go lucky and hit 4-deuces
for $250 which put me even for the day. Pretty good nightcap &
litttle did I know the start of my best 24hr gambling ever.
Woke up ~10am or so. I was feeling the last night's drinking so, I
decided to try the Edgewater buffet. It was a bit below average for
$6, I needed the coffee though. They did have an omlette station
which was pretty good. After breakfast, I decided to play back at
the Colorodo Belle shooter's bar. Started out on the right side, and
didn't get much play on my first $20 so, I moved a seat to the left.
Ended up doing this a couple times before, I hit a machine that gave
me some play. Within the first $40, I was amazed to see the
beautiful 4-deuces dealt to me. Called over the bartender (Dean) and
he gave me a high five. Played down the $250 win a bit and decided
to take a break. Went next door for McDonald's break & sat and
reflect by the river that I have been gambling for a day and am up!!
After getting some fresh air, went back to the shooter's bar and
played just left of the cocktail waitress station. Played some more
and before long was dealt A,K,J in diamonds & up popped the Q and 10
of diamonds. I was schocked and kept staring. I jumped up and
started yelling and drew a crowd. The progressive was at $1263, so I
gave info to receive my first ever taxable W10. What a grand day, I
was now up well over $1400!! Played some more and moved back the
edgewater to watch the Pats-Dolphins game. Ended up playing at the
bar the whole game 2 quarters at a shot in the loose deuces. I'm
from Rhode Isaland, so I was devasted that the Pats blew the game.
Good thing I didn't lay down any money on the game. Played a while
and went to bed.
Woke up early in the morning and couldn't remember making it back to
the hotel room. I must have been drunk beyond belief and was in
autopilot. I do amaze myself sometimes that I always manage to take
out my hard contact lenses though. Since, I was way up at this point
my goal was not to give back too much. I ended being up another $300
in the morning but, ended losing the $300 plus another $200 that
night.
Summary: Great trip which renewed my faith in video poker as
something that once in a while you can come home with money. Took
$1100 with me and came home with $1850. What a great christmas
present.
