A Week In The Life / Administrator's decisions...

If you're asking if I actually know ALL the details, the answer is no. But
I DO know that he reads every post, posts lots of interesting links for us,
and approves new members (their first post is moderated). He also decides
when a thread has gotten way off topic, or disruptive, and is relegated to
FREEvpFREE. I'm sure there are other things as well. If he would care to
correct or elaborate, I'm sure we would all find it interesting!

I find it VERY difficult to take issue with ANY decision our hardworking
and
unpaid Administrator makes.

Brian

Brian,
When you have a few moments, could you please list and describe in detail
the tasks that need to be performed on vpFREE that the administrator works

hard on in an average week. There may be others that are somewhat
uninformed, as I apparently am. Thanks.

OK.

Administrating vpFREE is a snap now that we have vpFREE2.
Before vpFREE2 I devoted more than 20 hours a week trying to
keep the DataBase current. All updates were done ASAP and
always within 24 hours of receipt.

I spent hundreds of hours over several years working with
the vpFREE2 administrator on a replacement for the vpFREE
DataBase. Now my data base involvement is limited to being a
moderator for a few casinos and forwarding data base
inquiries to vpFREE2. FWIW, I terminated my active
involvement with vpFREE2 during the development process and
a lot of my input wasn't implemented. Also, FWIW, every day
I give thanks for vpFREE2's existence, and really wish that
more people would support vpFREE2 by submitting updates and
volunteering to be a casino monitor.

Since vpFREE2, my vpFREE involvement has been limited to:

I read every post on every vpFREE forum ASAP and handle any
that need my attention. If a post with a question goes
unanswered for 24 hours, I try to come up with an answer.

If a thread shows signs of getting disruptive I watch it
closely and handle it as I deem appropriate. If I move a
thread to FREEvpFREE, I usually moderate the whole group for
a period of time, manually send some posts to FVF, counsel
some offenders privately etc..

I do a lot of agonizing and discussing with Ms. vpFREE about
administrative problems that arise periodically.

I initiate and administer disciplinary actions and deal with
any consequences thereof.

I read all moderated posts ASAP and weed out the ones that
are from spammers (usually one or two every day).

I get many private inquiries from members and handle them
ASAP.

I post a link to the LVA QOD daily.

I look for and post links daily to relevant video poker
articles.

I post at least three Monthly vpFREE lunch announcements and
keep track of attendees. Ms vpFREE and I hosted every monthly
lunch for several years.

I post the following each week:

   Vegas Values link
   Dancer's CasinoGaming link
   LVRJ Neon link

I post the following each month:

   vpFREE Policy link
   vpFREE Posting Guidelines link
   IQDB Request
   Jackpot Pictures announcement
   vpFREE Exchange posting
   LVA TopTen Values link
   vpFREE Member Participation requirements
   vpFREE Forums listing

I post many other links from time to time, such as Jean
Scott's LVA Blog, Scot Krause's LVA Bonus Points Updates,
Press Releases etc..

Periodically, I spend a lot of time on the vpFREE Hall of
Fame.

I initiate, run and eventually archive all of the vpFREE polls.

I deal with a lot of Yahoo problems and delays that can
lengthen the posting process considerably and often have to
check many times before finding a scheduled article that
doesn't show up when it was expected.

I do special projects from time to time. I'm just now completing
a Skip Hughes Memorial web page that Jean Scott requested.

I wrote and/or set-up, and now maintain and revise, most of the
resources that are linked to vpFREE Links, such as the FAQ,
Policies, Posting Guidelines etc..

Probably a few other things that I don't recall right
now, but the most time consuming by far is dealing with
problems like the current one.

And you made an extremely poor decision to ban Paladin from posting.

I don't post here much and know known of the parties involved, except by reputation. From an outsiders perspective your decision wreaks of bias and favoritism. Paladin is one of the very few reasons to follow this group.

I have been on VPFREE since it started and SHG before that. No one knows everything and is irreplaceable. You do not have to personally attack someone to bring information to the table. He is not the first to be tossed out and unfortunately, probably not the last. The Administrator did the right thing and I fully support him. If you don't like the rules and can't be civil toward each other, there are other groups I am sure that would love to have you.

For being here since the start you apparently haven't been paying attention much lately.

Bickering about smoking, arguing about cleanliness, heated political disagreements, and let's not even bring up the tipping issue. At least Paladin's posts involved actual VP discussion. If Admin wants to swing the ban hammer then there are many more better choices.

From a video poker knowledge perspective this group is FAR worse off without Paladin posting.

To paraphrase an old saying: You can please some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you can not please all of the people all of the time.

It's not always good or easy to have the helm. All I'd like to say is "thanks".

If Paladin has been banned I say BRAVO administrator! While Paladin does contribute with his war stories and reveals a lot of dead plays, he takes away from the group by intimidating and insulting posters ( I have been unfairly the victim of his attacks a few times ). His "I'm better/holier than you and your ilk" attitude is annoying - so I for one am glad he's gone. Give me one poster with a live play revealed and you replace 100 Paladins.
More royals to all...Tom

Royal,

If this how you fell about this group, I do not understand your reason(s) for remaing a member of this group.

The only decision of yours that I strongly disagree with is declaring yourself ineligible for nomination to the Hall of Fame! No one is more deserving or has done more for the vp community than you.
