A very good article about the Oregon Video Poker situation and the auto-hold that cheats the players.

Thank you. We're always looking for good suggestions.
This particular article is 10 weeks old. I've written two columns about it --- and we've spoken about it on the air. That's probably enough for this particular topic.

Some types of non-Nevada machines state in the Help section something to the effect that the auto-hold may not always select the optimal hold. I'm not sure about Oregon though. But on the other hand, I don't know of any of them saying that the auto-hold is optimal or anything that would lead a player to think that. I always looked at it as a suggestion rather than anything concrete.

Using Auto-hold essentially turns the Video Poker machine in to a slot machine. The complaint is that the Oregon Video Poker Machine Auto-hold in question returns less than advertised! If a Nevada casino did this, they would be in hot water with the gaming commission.
The State has removed the machines with the faulty Auto-hold Video Poker, replaced them with a different maker with an Auto-hold that is correct. I suspect that the State will eventually be found negligent, however how to make reparations to the tens of thousands of players who used the faulty Auto-hold may be impossible.
I will post any new information about this case here in the future.
