I have been studying 10/7 db for quite a while on Win Poker. I
just can't get the logic on the following hand. Please understand
I'm just a novice. Ac Qd 2h 10h 5c. Win says hold the Ace only. My
way of thinking is the 10h would be a "penalty" on the high straight,
and the 2h 5c would be a "penalty" on the low straight. Therefore why
wouldn't you hold the Qd also.
Thank you for your time.
A question about 10/7 DB:
i think the 5c is a flush penalty, and aren't u going for a higher
payoff with the Ac. i'm only a novice and learn alot from this great
group.

I would imagine it's because it drastically limits your chances of hitting
AAAAx.

You have chosen to tackle the most difficult of the penalty card
situations in this game. Yes the 10h is a straight penalty for the A,
but it is also a straight penalty for the AQ. In 10/7 DB, a ten unsuited
with the A is ALWAYS sufficient to make the correct play A alone over
AK, AQ, or AJ.
For a complete discussion of this and all other penalty card
situations in this game, see the Dancer/Daily "Winner's Guide" for
Double Bonus.

I'll give you my two cent, two part answer. 1. The power of aces in this
game, quad bullets contribute more than three percent of the return of the
game. 2. The 10h is much more of a critical penalty to the Qd, as there
are three straights that can be formed with a 10 and a Q, but only one with
a 10 and an A. Now, if you are reading this post and your name is Dancer,
please cover your eyes...NOW. If you just want to hold both high cards
anyway when you have a non flush(to the Ace) 10 in the hand, you wont be
losing a lot of sleep. Playing for quarters, this mistake will cost you a
little over one and one-half tenths of a penny, for dollars, about six
tenths of a cent. Nothing here that will threaten your early retirement.

In all fairness, I should have mentioned, if your other two discards(not the
10 and Q) are not bicycle straight cards, it could cost you a little more
than two cents playing for dollars. Just didn't want the penalty police
people to have a stroke.

I peeked.
And Nudge's arithmetic is correct. The unsuited AK, AQ, and AJ hands are
very close whether you hold the A or the two high cards. The
non-penalty-card rule of holding the A by itself only gains or costs you
a little bit, but since most players get extra pleasure out of going for
four aces, holding the A by itself increases your chances for that about
4 times compared to holding the AQ.

RE: 10/7 db
Thank you both---A very close call indeed. Learning this game for me is almost as
difficult as the A/City five of a kind game.
Many thanks
