A Noisy Noise Annoys An Oyster

Howdy

If you play VP long enough you will experience the inevitable and proverbial
"pain in the ass neighbor. I tell myself every time this occurs what do you
expect.??..you ARE in a casino. There's the couple where one plays and the
other one stands behind and coaches..not only loudly but wrongly. I am not sure
what bothers me more. Hey, I can always move, but the machine is eating my
money and I want it back. Then there is the "Punisher" who insist on banging
the buttons or more annoyingly ..the screen. Hopefully, he loves his dog.

To me VP requires a fair amount of concentration and these perps are
challenging my civility. Why is it that many of the patrons that pass you in route to
where ever are talking in a high volume voice and foreign tongue to boot ?
No, I am talking about English although it seems to be getting that way have
you noticed ?.

Don't get me started on long cell phone conversations and prolonged chats
between adjacent players

Another annoyance are some of those small change machines in my playing
radius that emit a mixture of the most inane utterances ever concocted by man or
beast.

Did I miss something?

Grumpy as ever

Like you said, you are in a casino. I actually get the impression
you expect "civility" from a continuous parade of slobs, cell phone
addicts, wannabe parents with their pet kids, and a whole host of
other idiots. Let's not forget the drugged out senior citizen
zombies.

That is what I see every day. But there is hope...even if you don't
smoke, have a cigar and light it up. If that doesn't solve the
problem, pretend you have Tourette's and just start cursing at no
one in particular. The louder the better. If neither ploy empties
the row, well then you gotta just grin and bear it.

HMMMM.....Interesting!

Now, how does one separate the REAL annoying people from the "fake" ones that Charles is
suggesting us to be?

LOL.

My wife's a read-aholic. When some rude, thoughtlless, inconsiderate idiot
talks on a cell phone (quickies are allowed, of course- everybody does
those) she'll take a book out of her purse and start reading it out loud.

Oh, after playing today, I DO have an annoyance. I play with husband and he goes to the BR (darn men). Every time and I mean every time he goes to the bathroom 2 or 3 people try to take his seat.

Now, I don't mind the polite, is someone sitting here (no, all the machines come preloaded with $121.25, is that great!! :), but occasionally, I get someone that is really rude about it..

"he not sitting here now" or "he shouldn't leave the machine", etc.

I've had people get really mean about it..much more annoying than the noise as it totally breaks my concentration.

I do have a noise "annoyance" story. A few weeks ago, we were at fiesta henderson, and there was a drunk woman and I mean falling down drunk who would yell out everytime she had a pair and swear loudly when nothing hit. She was yelling things like "I want sex" and screaming at her machine. She was totally wasted. I couldn't believe that the casino let it go on until she left vs. asking her to leave. It went on for a good 1/2 hour. I almost couldn't play waiting for the next yell. However, I hit a royal (I've had 2 in a week and none for a year prior), so I cannot complain

Lean the chair up against the machine.

Some of you may enjoy two articles on this subject that I wrote for a
Web site called Examiner.com. The site just switched to a new version,
and much of the formating has been lost, but I think you'll get the

That's fine if the chairs aren't bolted down, but today many are.

Tip the slot attendant who brings your winnings at least $20 if you just exceeded the $1,199 taxable amount; more, commensurate with the amount of your jackpot.

Ok, I know this will bring on the flames, but I have never understood the logic or reason behind giving a person acting as a cashier (slot attendant) a toke. What is the gain?

For me , I give a modest tip to avoid being labled "A Tom". Tom's are customers that dont tip ( vegas slang for Tom Turkey ).
Being a known "Tom" has disadvantages...
a. your machine jams, malfunctions - you call over an attendant but none seem to be around ! why...they avoid Tom's.
b. You call over an attendant - 'can you watch my machine' - Tom's typically get the excuse "Emmm, ah-hem - I'm going off duty now, or this isn't my section - I'll get somebody"
c. There's never a drink girl around in the Tom's aka advantage players machine section.
d. other examples too - but you get the picture.

PS - the opposite of Tom is a George. I've seen George's tip $300 on a $2000 hand pay - but to me, even though the workers bend over backwards to help these people at all times, just aint worth it .
