A Harrah's DIAD question

I know there is some issues with completing DIAD on the 9/6 JOB
machines at Harrahs properties depending on which machines (theo) and
and which properties you do it at.

I am a long time MGM Grand player who is looking to do DIAD and I will
be in Tahoe in Jan. Does anyone know if the $1/$2 9/6 JOB machines at
Harrah's Stateline offers the full Bonus credits? I'd like to do DIAD
while there and I mainly care about using the status for discresionary
comps like free rooms and food, but if those machines have the same
theo issues as Harrah's LV I guess I won't bother. If not, are there
any other Harrah's locations in Nevada that are still DIAD friendly?

Thanks in advance,

Jeff

Harrahs DIAD has nothing to with machine theoretical.

It is strictly based on earning the base points which is one point for every $10 coin-in. Bonus Reward Credits which you may or may not earn, have nothing to do with tier status.

No, no....I know that. I think you misunderstood. My question was,
when doing DIAD, I want to maximize my use out of it, especially with
discretionary comps (room, food, tickets and gift cards, etc) and I
know its earning Bonus credits which will contribute more heavily to
that. Knowing that clearing DIAD on a fullpay machine is the best
way to do it, my question was, are the still any full pay machines
where I can still earn the bonus credits to accomplish this (ie, MG
machines where the theo is more player friendly)? Most notably, the
ones at Harrah's - Stateline, NV since I will be there in January.

All three of the properties Harrah's owns at Lake
Tahoe have very, very
weak video poker schedules, a big change downward from
when they had competition, say 6-8 years ago. The
primary contributor to this reduction in video poker
schedules is the fact that the majority of play at the
Harrah's properties in the area now come from members
of their database in the Midwest/South who are staying
and playing at the Lake properties through the Total
Rewards direct mail offers. These players home
properties (Harrah's) offer very poor schedules so
there is no reason why Harrah's would want to offer a
better schedule when they come on vacation.

Hi Jeff;
Tahoe is a fantastic place but you are probably much better off earning that DIAD at Harrah's Laughlin. Check the Database.

Bonus Points are not Tier Points. Only Tier Points count toward Platimun/Diamond/7 stars
status.

Thanks for the replies guys. I guess I thought I read somewhere

that even though you would earn DIAD like normal, that the offers
wouldn't be as good or as frequent as in the past when you do it on a
full pay machine.

The reason I mentioned doing it in Tahoe because the database still
shows 3 $1/2 9/6 JOB machines:

9/6 JoB (99.5%)

(2) $1/$2 (3 Play) MG/MD slant-tops against the back of the
California bar. (Careful – one changed to 9/5 !!)

(2) $1/$2 (3 Play) MG/MD slant-tops in high-limit area on wall
nearest stage. (2 other machines are 9/5).

Has that changed? Are they no longer there?

Thanks again.

I strongly caution players not to use a lot of effort making a trip
to a casino to play where only 1 or 2 full-pay machines are
offerred. By limiting supply the casino assumes you will play
something "worse" if you get tired of waiting, since other
knowledgeable players will be trying to play those same 1 or
2 machines. Most players don't want to spend their day waiting for
someone to leave that one decent machine.

A relevant question I would like to pose is WHY people consider
Diamond status to be such a big deal. It is basically a glorified
line pass with lounge privileges which are being reduced more and
more over time.

And from a $$$ standpoint if you spend a lot of time playing at
Harrahs' properties to earn Diamond, your opportunities for decent-
paying VP are extremely limited. So if you are going to end up
playing "garbage" anyway, play instead at someplace like the Mandalay
Bay and at least get a nice room for your efforts.

This reply makes no sense to me. If, as a smart vp player, you focus
on playing higher payout vp machines to minimize loss and maximize
return value (cash back, room, food, gift comps, etc), why would you
NOT play the full pay machines just so they will stay around? So
that they stay around longer for you to continue to NOT play them? I
don't get the logic there.

As for DIAD status, I have frieds who earned in last year and
recieved many good room and gift card offers that made the status
well worth having. This is why I posed the question. I want to make
sure that earning the status means still getting many of those
offers. And, obviously, doing DIAD with the lowest expected loss
possible is the goal, isn't it?

Pursuing Diamond in a Day with the expectation of receiving a substantial amount of nice offers may not be worth it in today's environment for video poker players.

But it varies with each player as to what you consider of value.

You forget that vpFree does not just address the Las
Vegas area, neither does Harrahs.

There is good video poker at some Harrahs Casinos,
unfortunately none of them happen to be in Las Vegas.

The trick is to earn your status and comp dollars
elsewhere, and then come to Las Vegas stay at a
Harrahs property and play elsewhere.

I would suggest that a good option would be to stay at
the Rio for free on a Harrahs comp and then walk
across the street and play at the Palms.

A couple of observations:

1st -- I'll venture to say that their rooms and other offers had
nothing to do with attaining Diamond -- it reflects their daily play
average. Someone who played through 2900 RC in a day and failed to
make DIAD would likely receive the SAME subsequent offers as someone
who played through 3100 RC in a day in made DIAD.

2nd -- Offers are going to be sent for the property at which you put
in your play (you may ultimately receive some tangential room offers
for properties in LV, but those won't be immediate nor can you depend
on them). If you have an interest in returning to Reno/Tahoe, putting
in your DIAD play there is a good bet. If not, you're likely to be
disappointed.

3rd -- Just to make sure ... you understand that the $1/$2 9/6 Jacks
machines you refer to in earlier posts (noting the database entry
here) are strictly 3-play; you can't play just one line. Sorry if I'm
asking about something that needn't be questioned, but on two
occasions you've mentioned these machines without the "3-play" qualifier.

···

------

I'll echo npf's, "It (Diamond tier) is basically a glorified line pass
with lounge privileges which are being reduced more and more over
time." As I note, any other offerings are a consequence of single day
average, not tier status.

As such, earning it on these machines may make sense if a bankroll
requirement equivalent to that for $2 single line play is within your
standard play regimen and your intent is simply to accelerate earning
tier status you'll likely achieve within 3 visits anyway.

Short of that, this could be a bit of a fool's errand. Suffering a
$3K-$4K loss pursuing DIAD on these machines isn't an extraordinary
feat ($5K+ is plausible). If that represents a hard stretch relative
to what you normally risk in a day, it's an ill-conceived venture.

In the future, do as I and others recommend. Get the VISA card
that gives TR points for purchases. You only have to make a small
charge every six months to keep your Total Rewards alive indefinitely.
That would be a better choice than playing one point and destroying
whatever daily average you have already achieved.

I have charged less than $20 here and there on the card in the past
two years and it serves its purpose well.

I appreciate the correction ... I'll have to revisit this when I have
the opportunity.

Frankly, I was extrapolating from $1 single line play experience.
Since a $2K loss on $30K coin-in isn't "extraordinary" in my
experience, I've presumed that in advancing to triple play a $3K+ loss
might not be. But, admittedly, I'm rely upon perception here and not
visiting actual numbers. I may simply be jaundiced in my perceptions

At some point in the recent past, there appears to have been a "design change" made on the main vpFREE forum pages to have their links open in a new window by default instead of in the same window.

Why this change? I think it makes navigating from the main page and between forums rather unwieldy, as new windows keep getting created as you click on these links, and you have to go back and close the previous window. This design policy only appears to exist on "top-level" vpFREE pages; that is, the main page for each forum, e.g. vpFREE, vpFREE_California, etc. So if you make the vpFREE forum page a knd of "home page", every link you click will open a new window, which isn't great.

Most vpFREE pages have a set of navigation links on the bottom of each page to get back to the main vpFREE page, the Glossary, etc. This lends itself nicely to opening pages in the same window, as the user can either click this link or navigate back via the browser. By contrast, opening pages in a new window renders the "Back" button useless, as the history is cleared for new windows.

Also, these kinds of windows are considered "popup" windows, which are often blocked by "popup blockers", making it more difficult for users to navigate without specifically enabling popups for each visit to the site.

It would be more consistent (and in my opinion better design) to open all links internal to vpFREE in the same window by default, leaving it up to the user whether they want a new window or not. This can be done in most Windows browsers by holding down the Shift key while clicking a link. By contrast, there is no way [that I know of*] to prevent a new window from opening if the link has been coded that way. (*In IE7 and some other browsers, you can open the link in a new tab instead of a new window by holding down the Ctrl key). It would be acceptable to have links to other websites open in a new window, but they currently do not (e.g. Wizard of Odds paytables). However, you could use the same arguments above against doing such a thing.

I used to develop web pages, in case you couldn't tell by this post!

This happened several months ago and only applies to the links
