A GAMBLING DOGMA?

I wonder how many of you video poker players would agree with this
statement:

"When playing "negative" expectation games, quitting when ahead is
always the correct decision."

I believe there can be plenty of valid reasons for playing -EV games.
Quitting simply because you are ahead would only be optimal if your
specific objective is something like maximizing the probability of having
a winning session. If your objective is something like "turn $100 into
$175 or go bust trying" then you wouldn't quit just because you had
reached $150.

Generally speaking, the answer to "when is the best time to quit" depends
on what you are trying to accomplish. There cannot be any simple
rule that would apply to all situations.

If that were really true, then when you happen to get lucky enough to win a hand on your very first bet of that session, ... well, you'd have to quite right away. Drive three hours; play one game and win; drive three hours back home. I'll pass on that idea.

When playing negative expectation games, quitting when the game stops being fun is the correct decision for me....
