Well, maybe 'zilch' was a little strong
Drai's has always been a very
pleasant experience, especially the chocolate soufflé.
Personally we find Michael's overbearingly pompous and the food overrated.
The huge relish tray that so impresses others does not a thing for me--hold the
pickled cauliflower please. Where is the hot fresh bread instead? My last
salad there was tossed in about a gallon of blue cheese dressing. I had
difficulty picking out the green lettuce. Yuck! This place is more about people
falling all over you than quiet unobtrusive service. More about show than great
food. I know, I know, it's just my opinion.
And then there is the Victorian room, a mediocre diner at best. Let me just
say that I once got food poisoning so bad there that I wound up on intravenous
fluids at an emergency clinic. And the service can be extremely slow.
The rooms are Holiday Inn Express at best.
Now, having said all that, let me say that I love the Barbary Coast. We got
started playing VP there many years ago and were very grateful for their
generous comp policy. On a recent trip to another strip casino, we actually spent
more time at the BC racking up VISA cards. The best thing about the BC is the
friendly staff from Lisa Vios on down to the floor personnel and hotel
check-in.
As good as the VISA promotion was, I can still do better back home without
the expense of traveling to Las Vegas. Which gets us back to the main
point--opportunities are dwindling and expenses are rising. We used to go to LV 8-10
times a year. This year we will only go 5 or 6 times. Next year, who knows?
