A Better Place To Play

Straying off the topic just a little bit, and pulling out my soapbox......

I've stayed out of all the vpFree yapping re: smoking in casinos,
but I just can't keep quiet any longer.

I have a very intense dislike for crowded places, especially with large NOISY
crowds. So I do not attend professional football or baseball games, nor do I
go to raucous music concerts. Casinos during the busiest times are out of
the question, too. In other words, if there's something about a venue that I
dislike, I just stay away or figure out a way around it (like going to a casino
in the wee hours of the morning). Can you see where I'm going with this?

Smokers in casinos are engaging in a perfectly legal, albeit foolish,
activity. If the guy next to you has a ciggie drifting smoke your way, politely ask
him to move it. If he refuses, then go elsewhere. Show up in the off-hours
when there's fewer people in the place. Pick an end machine so that you've
only got 1/2 the chance of sitting next to a smoker. Do something, but
quitcherbitchin'!

Granted, most casinos with smoke-free areas also populate them with crappier
games, and that's a travesty you can address with the management (good luck).

An earlier thread claimed that credit for the huge upswing in HoldEm Poker
can be attributed to all the new nonsmoking poker rooms. Perhaps in a small
way, but that's mostly hogwash. The avalanche of televised poker is the reason.
World Poker Tour, Celebrity Poker Showdown, a month of WSOP on ESPN, etc.
Had poker not become a TV favorite, the nonsmoking rooms would have caused but a
ripple in poker room activity.

Casinos are smoky places, although it's been getting better in the last few
years. Even with new technology in air management, it's still a fact of life.
A vegetarian shouldn't go to a steakhouse and complain about all the beef.

Right on, Brian.
This is an excellent thread. I have been a smoker for more years than I can
count. I have been off them since the beginning of 2006. I would be quite
the hypocrite to walk into a casino and start complaining about the smoke.

I hate smoke, being allergic but....... There are
two casinos in Laughlin with non smoking sections,
Harrah's and the Riverside. The Harrah's pit opens at
noon, it does perhaps 15% of the business that the
smoking area does, similar at the Riverside so non
smokers, I have VERY BAD news for you and recommend
you lighten up!!!

And if what I had happen in Biloxi where the guy got hostile,
started intentionally blowing smoke on me and when a kind lady next
to me told him to cut it out he start swearing a blue streak that
would make a mule skinner blush and called her a fat bitch, what
should I do.

Since then I just call security.
