I'd like to put some play in at a casino because they sent me a room
offer and food credit. It looks like the best game they have is the
99.98% return One-Eyed Jacks video poker. Anyone know where I can get
the optimal strategy for this game? Thanks.
99.98% One-eyed Jacks Strategy?
BTW, mind sharing which casino?

It's at the Excalibur.
Gotta buy the program huh?
Through some research online I found a strategy for a higher pay
version of the game (over 100% return). If it's anything like that,
it's really hard because the right strategy depends on the suits of the
cards you're holding and discarding. Yikes.
Looks like it has some really strange strategy variations. Here's a
link for the full pay strategy guide. Yikes!

If you plan on playing the game on a regular basis then I think the
program would be a good idea. WVP has just about any game available
today with corresponding strategies. I've used it for several other
games as well. If you just want to practice OEJs a little then
vipoker (free) will do. Don't expect to play the game perfectly EVER.

You got it. In addition, nearness to a jack is relevant just like
nearness to a deuce in deuces wild games. I've been playing the game
for over 10 years so email me if you have any specific questions.

Yes, I've seen this. The paytable at this site is actually lower than
the one at Excalibur. The highest two-pair version of OEJs I've
encountered is the Grand OEJs (100.28) which is the same as your
reference but pays 250 for a SF instead of 225. This change lowers
the payback by around 1%.
I happened to notice the actual lifetime payback of a machine with
the Grand OEJ paytable. A tech was working on it and happen to leave
this screen up for a few seconds. The actual return was around 93%.

I didn't hit as big as Brad did, but it was probably more of a surprise. Last night we were playing quarter Five Play Multi-Strike, one of our favorite games, when I landed on the top line with two hands to play. I hit "Deal" and the machine locked up and a royal appeared so briefly on the deal line and then disappeared and in a flash reappeared as two on the top line.
I always laugh when Megabuck winners say they didn't know how much they had won. They were playing a machine that they had no clue about the payoff details??? Now I understand this - it all happened so fast that I didn't immediately realize what the payoff would be. But for math dummies like me who can't do figures fast in their head, the machine takes pity on them and flashes on the screen the $16, 023.75 (I got a little something from the other 3 lines).
(For some of you who aren't familiar with Multi-Strike - whatever you get on the top line is multiplied times 8. So this was $1000 x 8 - times 2 for two royals - 16K)
In case it is true that you get lucky just before you die, Brad is driving extra carefully and defensively and I look both ways twice before I cross a street!!!

Well done -- I hope your "House of the Rising Royal" continues its
dominance of the "Powers That Be."
The VP god in charge of dealt royals must have taken a liking to our
house.

The optimal strategy is about 5 pages long and is different for clubs/diamonds versus hearts/spades. I use a simplified strategy which loses about 0.07% off the optimal.

Only five pages, you must use a small font or ignore lots of penalty
situations

I hadn't played it in over a year and I took a look at the strategy and it would indeed require a small font to fit on 5 pages. The last time I played it was at the Horseshoe in Carson City where they had 2/3% CB and you could bet either $4 or $8 to receive full odds. I once got a RF there just holding a 10 of clubs (one of the very few games where you can do that while playing correct strategy).

#%^%#$@&# ... I think everyone who plays this game has done this except
me.
However, I did get 5oak holding just the 6 of diamonds (another correct
strategy play).

Hi Jean,
Hearty congrats on another great win!
Question: Why did you have TWO hands to play on the top line? I
don't play a lot of MS, but don't understand this. I thought that
when you are lucky enough to pop a 3rd line winner, that you advance
to the top (8X) level for ONE hand.

Thank goodness, then, that EH and I both lost on our five day stay
in your fair city! We just returned last night. I'm SOOO relieved
that our "bankroll adjustment" was in a good cause! At our age it's
more important to stay vertical than to win! {(O:

This was FIVE PLAY Multi-Strike so you have five hands on the first line and then you have 1-5 hands on up depending how many hands you win on the previous line.
To play all lines on a quarter machine, you have to put in $25.
