9/6 JB strategy on 10/7 DB

Currently teaching 9/6 JB to a new VP player. We will be in Las Vegas later this month where I will be playing 10/7 DB.

I think I remember reading that you could play 9/6 JB strategy on 10/7 DB and the return would equal the 9/6 JB return.

Is this correct. Don't want to try to introduce her to DB this soon.

Not exactly. Using 9/6 JoB strategy on 10/7 DB actually returns a bit more than using the same strategy on 9/6 JoB. I haven't looked at the number in years, but I think it was something like 99.62% The variance of DB remains quite a bit higher than the variance of JoB. Unless you have the stomach for the ups and downs, the games are not interchangeable. Bob

Somebody might give you the exact strategy changes but the only ones I remember are that in 10/7 you hold inside straights and 3 card flushes. Those 2 simple adjustments bring you up to something like 99.9%-which ain't too shabby!

Even playing straight 9/6 Jacks strategy is almost 99.7% on 10/7 DB.

If, in addition to the 3-card flush and inside straight holds, you also break up an Aces high full house to go for the 4th Ace, and prefer an open-ended 4-card straight draw over a low pair, you can probably get to @ 99.8 or so. At least that's what I recall reading long ago.)

Five Card has a great tool that covers this type of question. You give up .54%. Check out his chart:

Wow that is really interesting how close the EV is for all the games! I didn't expect that at all.

Thank you all for your replies. I did not mention that my friend has very limited English speaking and has been learning VP by playing 9/6 JB on my I-phone with WinPoker in the warn mode. I hope to interduce her to the variations for 10/7 gradually.
