9/5 JWD (99.9%) at Bally's AC

I would like to learn this game, but can't seem to configure the VPW
demo version to handle a 2-joker deck. I know that Paymar has
strategy cards available for it, but I learn a lot better through
software. I received a 25x multiplier for October 28 and outside of
9/6 JOB there really isn't much worth playing there. So I guess my
question is, does the full version of VPW allow this game to be
created or is there any other software trainer available for learning
optimal strategy?

Fooling around with VideoPokerHunt, they have 8/5 Double Joker poker
and I was dealt 5d, Qh, joker, 3c, Ac. Thought the best hold was the
Joker only, but VPH suggests holding 5d + joker as (ever so) slightly
stronger. Anyone want to clue me in as to what I am missing? I don't
want to lose that penny if I don't have to.

The non-mathematical way I look at it is that by holding one card with
the joker, you're "live" to hit 5 of a kind with 3 cards to go,
whereas, if you don't, there are 12 cards that can be your first card
drawn that you won't be so.

I've got a couple different strategy sheets for 9/5 DJW. It can get
complicated with penalty cards, so I settle on a strategy that's
close to perfect w/o driving me crazy.

In the case you show, I'd hold the 5 (and this would apply to any card
5 thru 9) unless there's a discard of the same suit AND (two straight
card discards OR a single adjacent discard). In other words... if the Q
in the example were a Qd, I'd hold the joker only.

(I'm pretty sure it's a strategy I bought from Jazbo that clued me into
this... and his card goes into even more detail than that I think.)

As discussed, VPW doesn't address this game. You want to look to
Frugal VP or Winpoker as your strongest tutors (in this case, I
strongly recommend Frugal VP).

Fortunately you have the better part of two weeks to look the game
over and decide if you want to tackle it "prime time" for this
promotion. I don't know anything about your standard play but the
fact that this game is a "discovery" for this promotion suggests that
it may be a stretch not only on the strategy front but also on the
bankroll one as well.

The unfortunate thing about stretching for a promotion is if you
suffer adverse luck early on: If you're playing your standard fare
you can chalk it up to the swing of the pendulum. But it's not so
easy to do so when you have your sights set high and you've been
struck a low blow instead.

It isn't that long ago since someone on these groups walked away from
those machines, 25x multiplier deposited, complaining of incredibly
sour luck. From what was reported, it seemed more a case of ill
equipped bankroll.

No portion of this caution may be applicable in your case -- take it
for what it is.

I played these machines last Weds night thru Fri morn. To give you an
idea of the fluctuations... On Weds night, I'd guess it was about a 2
to 3-hour session, I think I didn't hit any wild royal or better,
maybe just a few straight flushes. I hit bottom at down $1600. I was
playing at a moderate pace, not super-fast.

The next day, in I dunno about 6 hours, I started hitting a bunch of
wild royals (never a big dealt hand tho), and swung all the way up to
+$900. In a very short time Fri morn, that swung back to +$400 before
I quit.

I'd think I generated $100 to $200 cash back for next trip, we'll see.

Taking a pretty wild guess based on my 2 trips where I attacked this
machine... I'd guess that in a few hours of play it wouldn't be
unusual to have a $2000 swing.

...try $4-$5K. Covariance on this game is substantially higher than,
say, Jacks.
