Thank you for a great review. I skipped it for almost all the reasons that
you detailed. However, the most glaring one is that they do not know their
customers! In spite of the fact that they have one of the best customer
databases, they seem to use it for analyzing financial results rather than
using it for marketing opportunities. I had high hopes for Gary Loveman's
ascension at Harrah's but I'm afraid he's just another Harvard academic who
can't apply what he's learned to the real world. Business Week wrote an
effusive article on him in the 8/6 issue which is worth reading:

For us on this side of the ocean, I didn't mind that they missed the
opportunities in Asia. It meant that there was one large company left that had
to concentrate the bulk of their efforts on the US market. Even now, the
other large players like Sands & Wynn have shifted their focus overseas away
from LV. MGM-Mirage may follow in their footsteps but they'll have a harder
time due to their much higher bet on LV. However, the precedent is there
when you look at the recent history of AC & that MGM & Wynn chose to leave
the sinking ship.
