7/7/07 "Luckiest Day Ever" at Prairie Meadows in Iowa

Well, 7/7/07 lived up to the hype for me. Prairie Meadows in Altoona
(Des Moines) Iowa was running a "Luckiest Day Ever" promotion which
awarded a new 2007 Pontiac Solstice (MSRP $28,000) to the person with
the single largest jackpot throughout the day. I figured $20k would
easily take this based on the size of the casino (and I was right as
$5,000 came in second place), so I figured the value of the car into
the RF and adjusted the strategy accordingly as you would for a
progressive jackpot. First time playing the $5 level for me, and it
was a huge success.

I want to give a huge thanks to Bob Dancer for the advice on the promo -
I might have wasted some time at the $1 level first otherwise. And
time was definitely not something on my side for this one, at least
until I hit it, and then time couldn't go by fast enough to find out if
I had one the car on top of my first $20k Royal! Although it would've
been a fun car to drive, winters in the midwest don't go so well with
convertibles (nor do tall people). I am either going to take the cash
option of $22,000 or trade it towards a different car if I can get
considerably more than that. Still, its sweet to say I won a car which
is something I always wanted to do in life, although I had always
pictured winning it on The Price is Right

I hope everyone else had a successful 7/7/07 too! Anyone else find any
102% plays at the $5 level?

102% plays at the $5 level?

No, no cars in the show at Bally's. It is a fun show, though. They
give away prizes such as 500 TR points between the main games as if
the points have a 1/1 ratio to the dollar. For what the tickets cost,
everyone in the audience should get 100 points automatically simply as
a goodwill gesture. It would likely spur more gambling as the show let
out.

They had some cheap car at the taping I saw but you
had to be within $100 of your showcase.

That is just so cool, and the pictures were great too, thanks! Though
I have a few questions. What were the rules if there was a tie? This
can very important consideration. Were there larger denom machines
than the $5 ones? Imagine scoring the RF and getting beat out by a
FOAK on $100 BP Deluxe, or tying for one on a $50 machine. Did you
budget enough to play furiously for the entire qualifying period or did
you just say ok this much money and I hope I get lucky. Would a
jackpot from doubling down repeatedly have qualified?

All good questions, most of which I have answers for.
-The rules on a tie were that whoever hit the jackpot first would get
the car, so I knew I was safe there since the only other high stakes
machines were in my sight so I would've known if someone else hit
before I did (except for a 100-play 25c Ill. 2's where a dealt deuces
for $25k could've taken it).
-$5 is the highest denom machine at PM, the only better machine that
could've been played was a 3 or 5-play $1/$2/$5 with 9/5 JOB &
Illinois 2's - and much to my delight, it was taken up by someone
playing $1 or $2 almost the whole day.
-The risk for me would've been quite high to play that scenario day
in and day out; however, since it was just a one day event and I
have been having a far better than expected year, I decided it was
worth the pot shot. I calculated the expected hourly loss without the
return from the RF, and I brought enough to cover a full day's play
based on that.

-The double ups are the one question I don't have an answer for. My
machine had the double up option enabled, but I was not offered to
double up on the RF. It was however offered on a STFL.
