Sounds like someone is handing out a line. According to this story, which is in todays news, Foxwoods/MGM is imposing an extra 1% tax above the "state sales tax" and they are keeping the 1%.

The article seems to be saying that the casinos ARE collecting the 6% state sales tax, thereby implying that it is going to the state. This contradicts what Mohegan told you. Maybe they made up the story to cover either a mistake or a scam. If they are in fact acting as the state's agent and collecting the tax, one would assume they would be following the state's sales tax regs. Or perhaps I'm misunderstanding what they told you. Is the tax they told you about ONLY on the bullion? Or is it the 6% they charge on everything?

Right, the 6% is charged in the stores, but the Chinese girl says it is a
casino surcharge and not really a state tax charge, but they just call it
that. I haven't heard back from the casino yet.

Ok, I finally heard back from the casino. Being they are a sovereign nation, they do not charge Ct. state tax, but they 'do charge their own sales tax', (or surcharge, if you want to call it that). It goes to the Mohegan nation. They do charge this same tax on all gold bullion products, unlike the state which doesn't. So it seems that the price of the gold bars is now 1500 points or dollars plus the 6% which currently puts it around a 66% markup over spot gold prices. A real big price gouge by the Oriental Fine Arts store. It seems if gold goes up $25 they raise their price up $50, it also seems they don't drop their price very often. I seen one man go in and buy 2 bars using his points on Tuesday, so they have customers. Are there any other stores selling gold bullion at the Sun casino?
