I have always found that effective, especially when I turn around and glare at the "audience". In the rare case when even that doesn't work, these remarks are often effective:
"Video Poker is not a spectator sport."
"I'm not an animal!"
"You're not going to start throwing peanuts, are you?"
And, of course, the "nuclear option":
"Go away or I'll call security".
(Note: This one doesn't work very well when it's security that is watching you.)

I remember someone commenting on here some time ago about lurkers who watch people playing. Their advice was to stop playing while these lurkers are standing behind you and they will soon bore of watching you doing nothing. Good advice, I have done this and it is effective. Don't know if it will help in your situation. It is annoying and distracting to know that someone is watching you like that.
I have literally had people continuously stare at me playing one of these machines for an hour or longer. To be honest, it sort of gives me the creeps. Sometimes they will make annoying comments
