50-Play/100-Play Machines

I have always found that effective, especially when I turn around and glare at the "audience". In the rare case when even that doesn't work, these remarks are often effective:
"Video Poker is not a spectator sport."
"I'm not an animal!"
"You're not going to start throwing peanuts, are you?"
And, of course, the "nuclear option":
"Go away or I'll call security".
  (Note: This one doesn't work very well when it's security that is watching you.)

Their advice was to stop playing while these lurkers are standing behind you and they will soon bore of watching you doing nothing. Good advice, I have done this and it is effective. Don't know if it will help in your situation. It is annoying and distracting to know that someone is watching you like that.

I have literally had people continuously stare at me playing one of these machines for an hour or longer. To be honest, it sort of gives me the creeps. Sometimes they will make annoying comments

I don't mind the lurkers as long as I know they are behind me. I just
protect my bankroll in a non-obvious way and continue. They can't
effect any change in how the machine pays. Personally, I ask if
someone minds me watching the 50/100, Multiline MultiStrike, ... If
they say no, I walk on. Most don't say no. They are there to have fun.

The ones I hate are the credit watchers. I actually blew up at one
this weekend. I wish the Indians would allow walkmans so I could keep
from hearing these stupid coments. "Gee, you are doing well. You have
800 credits." It was a nickle machine, and I started with
$100(actually my second $100). I blew up and said something like,
"How the hell do you know how I am doing, DumbKopf." The lady sitting
next to me says, "Well most of us just put $20 in at a time and play 1
nickle on keno on superslow speed." I just glare at all of them and
them stalk off to the bathroom(3 steps) and then go get coffee.

Sorry for the last post. It got sent before I was ready. I guess
the finger is faster than the eye!

I wanted to add my "last resort" tactic for getting rid of
kibbitizers/lurkers/advice givers/sources of mis-information who
establish a beachhead behind your machine, and refuse to leave no
matter how many mean looks or sarcastic comments you direct to them.

Twirl around in your seat, look directly into their eyes, lurch
forward in their direction, and say with a weak smile, "Look out!
I've had too much to drink, and I'm going to throw-up!" This is even
more meaningful if accompanied by a deep stomch rumble. If that
doesn't get them moving away, by all means barf on them.

concentration and causes me to slow down.
