Last week I cashed in a voucher for $110 at a casino redemption window
and asked for two $50s and a $10. The person behind the window told
me "we don't have any $50s", and gave me five $20s and a ten. This
week at a different casino in AC I cashed in a voucher for $120 and
asked for two $50s and a $20 and was told "we don't have any $50s". I
could see their drawers full of money as they were telling me this and
find it hard to believe neither place had a $50. Can anyone enlighten
me as to why they did this? Bill
$50 Bills
It's because of the superstition, held by many gamblers, that
$50 bills are unlucky.
I think (but am not sure) that this started with the racetrack
crowd, back in the 20's.
Because I was raised by a racehorse owner, I have the same
senseless aversion to $50 bills, and will not accept them as change
for a larger bill.
Perhaps some more knowledgable player can elucidate further.
Morewhile, don't take any "wooden nickles" or $50 bills!

Casinos generally don't carry $50 bills in the cage... at least the ones I
frequent.

Many gamblers do not like 50s & consider them unlucky. I don't take
them myself.

I would think also that the ATMs typically only vend $20s and $100s, the availability of $50 would be minimal.

Casinos don't have much demand for them and prefer to keep any
additional slots in the till for more practical uses (coupons, or
whatever). I've been told that the only ones held by a cashier are
those cashed in by patrons.
I'm also fond of carrying at least a couple of $50's in my bankroll (I
like them for $.25/$.50 play on occasion vs. smaller bills, or for the
exceptional tip). Surprisingly, I find there's often 2 or 3 50's to
be had if you check with a couple of cashiers.

If any of you really don't want your $50's, I'd consider giving you two $20's for them; limited time offer! Hurry!

I heard $ 50's indicated bad luck to some Oriental gamblers and that they weren't used in casinos. But I'm getting old maybe this is just my imagination.
