I've been playing FPDW for over 2 months now and am wondering what others do
when dealt 5 of a kind with 3 ducks. Do you always hold all 5? Always go
for ducks? Vary based on value of "pair" or machine (ticket vs. hopper
fill)? I've been holding only the 3 deuces if the "pair" is 10 through Ace.
Not once has the 4th deuce come in.

You're doing this backwards. With 3 deuces and a high pair, keep the wild
royal. If you have a low pair, keep the 3 deuces -- especially if you're on
a coinless machine.

Steve is correct (I know he did not mean to say wild royal) hold only the three deuces when the pair is 9 or less. There is the chance of getting the wild royal on the redraw. You should hold the 5-kind when the pair is 10 - Ace.
On my last two trips, LV and Laughlin, I was dealt 3 deuces 72 times and not once did I draw the fourth deuce. Statistically, holding 3 deuces and drawing two cards should get the fourth deuce every 23.5 times. In fact, I didn't get the four deuces while holding one or two deuce either! I did get the four deuces once on the deal and once on the redeal. That is the nature of FPDW.

Yes, of course <g>. I picked up some nasty flu virus the other day and

Playing FPDW, you should throw away the pair if you have 222xx, and
x is 9 or lower. You should keep five of a kind, when 222xx and x is
10,J,Q,K, or A. This is because when throwing away two high cards,
it is that much harder to get a wild royal than when throwing away
two low cards. The play is so close (standing pat on five of a kind
vs. throwing away the pair) that the decreased availability
of "royal" cards when pitching a high pair tips the scale in favor
of holding the quints.
By the way, in NSUD or any game wherein the five of a kind pays 16,
with the payoff for four deuces (200/1) remaining the same, the
proper play would ALWAYS be to hold the (now more valuable) pat 5-of-
a-kind.
