IGT has indicated that for several years now, the 47 "cards" after
the deal are being continuously shuffled (Some state laws require
this!) so you probably did not miss the royal as holding three cards
instead of two probably would take longer. Several years ago in the
middle of a 29 month RF drought, I was playing the old $1 8-5 BP bar
tops at the Majestic Star. I started to hold Ah, Jh and at the last
moment noticed that my two end cards were both red twos. I corrected
the hold and up course up popped Qh, 10h, Kh. These machines were
probably previous to that shuffle change. That was $8,050 down the
tubes!
