5 Joker Poker

Apparently this is the only decent game offered at the Tropicana in Atlantic City, with a 99.59% return, even slightly better than 9/6 JOB. This game is listed in the VPFree database, and has 5 jokers in a 57 card deck.

I would like to try playing this in the hope that I can get comped weekend rooms there as well as have a decent game to play. I was able to get an upgrade and a host due to the closing of the Trump Taj Mahal and my play there, and he is willing to get me comped weekend rooms, but if all they have is 8/5 JB at 97.30%, I will only be getting one comped weekend because I won't play there at all.

Does anyone have an optimal strategy for this game? I can't find it online anywhere.

Have to question your research skills. It's available on the Wizard of Odds site by using the "Strategy Maker" tool in the Video Poker for Advanced Players section.

I did look at that, but the Strategy Maker doesn't have anything for Joker games, and this is a special game where there are 5 jokers in the deck. Not sure if my question was stated clearly, the game in the VPFree2 database is listed as JW5 They call it Five Joker Wild, and I think it is also called Five Joker Poker. The Wizard did have expected return tables (without strategies) for a variety of joker games, but nothing with Five Joker Wild. In the VPFree2 database, the pay table is listed and the expected return is 99.59%.

I am working on a strategy on my own in the meantime. I'm a computer programmer, fairly knowledgeable on how to write code for this, and I pretty much understand how to calculate the probabilities, But I don't always know what I'm doing and can very easily make mistakes and/or miss something important, so if I have to figure this out myself I'd at least want to verify it against something else. And ideally, I'd rather not bother trying to figure it out myself if someone smarter than me already figured it out. I need to have a strategy within 3 weeks from now when I go to the Tropicana, so I can play something decent there and have a chance at getting comped rooms in the future. I want to make sure that my strategy is correct and at or at least very close to 99.59%. Otherwise, they have nothing playable and I wouldn't waste my money playing there. So if anyone is able to find anything, I would greatly appreciate it.

One other thing, this is shown as a progressive at the Tropicana (Atlantic City)? Does anyone know what the progressive is for? The non-progressive payout is 800 units for a natural royal flush or for 5 jokers, and I'm wondering which hand has the progressive. I suspect the progressive will have little or no effect on the strategy, but I just started working on this and could be wrong.

If anyone wants to see my results when I'm done, I'll be happy to post them. According to the VPFree2 database, this game only exists at the Tropicana in Atlantic City.

I did find an online game (not for real money), but with a worse pay table: http://igromat.com/run/five-joker-poker

This game shows you what cards to hold, but the strategy would probably be somewhat different in this game and I wouldn't trust it. I might try using their pay table in my program and see if my strategy matches theirs, if it does I might at least have some confidence that what I'm doing is valid.

I'll also note Five Jokers VP is included in Frugal Video Poker (both practice play and strategy generator). I presume it's also present in Wolf Video Poker (same developer).

I used to play 5 Joker Poker at the Hilton. They had 3 dollar machines. It had a little better pay table, over 100%. I learned the strategy from Win Poker.

Thank you so much, I really appreciate your help. My mistake was that while I was able to find the strategy maker, I was looking at Anything's Wild instead of 5-Card Draw Poker, so I didn't see Five Joker Poker in the next dropdown. Now I have it in both the hand analyzer and the full strategy itself. I did start working on something on my own, and it looked pretty good to me, but then when I was almost done I realized that I had set the payout for 4 Jokers to 5 instead of 50, so that basically screws up any close decisions. So I think I'll just use what the Wizard did, and if I have time I'll finish what I was doing and see if it matches.
