LV Report LV 4-11-06 (10 of 12)
After a rough night dealing with this cold, I considered
just staying in today, but as the morning wore on, I started feeling
better. At 11:00 AM, Martin came over and we decided that today was
going to be a small coupon run. However, we stopped to have
breakfast/lunch at the café here at Sunset.
I've now stayed at Sunset Station at least once, and
sometimes more, per year since they opened seven or eight years ago,
and for no particular reason have never eaten in their coffee shop.
I've either dined at the buffet or from some place in the food
court. However, Martin decided that we could use our points from
our cards for the meal.
I had chicken soup and a salad and Martin had the hot turkey
sandwich. The soup and salad was okay, but I think they put half a
turkey on Martin's sandwich. It was huge. I also noted as other
diners ate, that their portions were really large too. I'm not sure
just when and where portions of food became so enormous, but it's no
wonder why we're all getting so overweight. Being a Californian,
it's still odd for me to be asked if I want to sit in a smoking or
non-smoking seat. One cute thing of note: While we were eating (we
sat at the counter), there was a couple in their 80s sitting close
to us. What did the order and were served? Oatmeal and prunes?
No. They each had a gigantic banana split. Ahhh, it's nice to know
that you don't have to act oldwhat happens in Vegas
We headed out on our first coupon run. It was the Longhorn
Casino on Boulder Strip. We each used the LVA coupons; one good for
an Ace for the first card, the other for bet $10 win $20.
Fortunately, I picked up a blackjack and was paid, but the dealer
hit a 21 and Martin lost. The next bet, the dealer had a 4 card
showing and Martin a 10. He doubled down. The dealer drew two
cards and hit 21; Martin lost again, now down $30. I lost the
second hand too so we left with me five bucks ahead and Martin $30
down. The two hands we played, the dealer got 21 both times.
We next headed over to Arizona Charlies East. We had a 2
for 1 coupon there. We found a blackjack table. The dealer
shuffled the cards, I split them. We put our coupons down with our
ten dollars, The dealer showed a 4 card, and I had a 10, I doubled
down. The dealer turned over a 10 and drew a 7 for a 21. That
makes three 21s in a row for the dealers. All we could do is walk
out with our tails between the legs. This is why I don't play
blackjack.
We headed over to Sahara to use the LVA coupon where you buy
in for $40 and can wager up to $50. Considering our luck at the 21
tables, we decided to sit down at a pai gow table. I went through
my $50 at ten dollars per bet and ended up with $35. Martin,
however, got on a roll and made $100. Unfortunately, by now I was
starting to feel bad again and decided to go back to my room for a
while and rest. We had to cut our coupon run short. Martin needed
to check into the Aladdin, and we'd meet up again at 6:00 PM for the
Fab Four show, which he had complimentary tickets. Problem was that
I simply did not feel much better and called that off too.
By about 7:00 PM, I was starting to feel a little better and
thought I better give Sunset some more action if I wanted to keep
the room offers coming. I played some nickel Multi-Strike. After
about fifteen minutes, I got four deuces againand again on the
bottom line. That's three sets of deuces (playing deuces wild), on
a Multi-Strike machine, all on the bottom line. The cynical side of
me really rises up when this happens on such a regular basis.
I then took a shot at the Triple Deuces machines and stuck
out there, so it was a down day for me on the gaming side. I suppose
this is going to be one of those colds that just linger on for who
knows how long. It's frustrating being on vacation, but that's how
it goes sometimes. I have learned something through all of this:
cough syrup tastes terrible, and it's worthless.
