Yes, Steve, there are alternate strategies to max-ER that better
satisfy a single goal of reducing loss between royals (albeit at a
modest hit to ER). But no one was suggesting that max-ER is optimal
for all.

The late Lenny Frome had an excellent article on this subject in his book that had many of his columns. Perhaps the name was America's Nat'l Game of Chance or something similar. He mentions what you lose in ER when you "go for it".
