3 to a Royal

You do what you want, but I follow the rules. The reason is that I want my
bankroll to last long enough to get those royals and those plays cut out a
percentage from that possibility. I guess it depends on your view of the long
term. I believe I'm playing this game intending to continue for the rest of my
life.. that's a long time (I hope) and so I'll marshall the percentages in my
favor.

If you really truly want your bankroll to last long enough to hit a royal
flush, and you view that as your primary objective (over and above the
pursuit of EV/ER) then max-ER strategy is the wrong way (for you) to play.
Certain plays that give higher ER act to reduce the probability that your
bankroll will survive long enough to hit a royal flush.

Many will tell you to stick to max-ER strategy, but that is misguided advice.
Search your soul and ask what you really want when you play VP. If
the answer comes back "to survive long enough to hit a royal" then you
should consider changing to a playing strategy that is tuned to that specific
objective.

This is a great post!

I strayed and started holding 3 to a Royal, and I noticed my bankrool not lasting as long really quickly over a two week time
