This typically means that 3 coins is the "max coin" wager on these
machines (as opposed to thh 5 coins that is generally the rule).
As you know, at max coin RF pays an increased amount than smaller
wagers. For example, on a 5 coin machines anything short of a 5 coin
wager will pay a RF at 250 coins per coin wagered, but pays 800 coins
per coin wagered for a 5 coin "max" wager.
In many cases a 3 coin machine will pay 1000 coins per coin in on a
max coin bet (3000 for 3 coins) rather than 800 per coin (not
necessarily though). This 1000 for 1 payout offers a premium over the
standard paytable of about .5%, making many games "positive" (expected
return > 100%) that otherwise would be "negative".
As a final note, perfect strategy on these machines where the RF pays
a premium can call for modest changes to hold strategy. For example,
it may be proper strategy to hold a suited (A 10). However, you're
not giving up a lot if you stick to standard 800 for 1 RF strategy.
