3-card poker (OT)

I have a question about this game, which I have never played. Math experts say this about strategy: Use this easy strategy in the anti-bet part: bet when you have queen-6-4 and fold when you have anything less. However, I have friends who say the dealers recommend you “play blind.” Just bet every hand before you even look at your cards. I know dealers are notorious for giving bad advice so I am assuming that this strategy would give the house a bigger edge than 2.01% which they have if you use the math experts’ strategy. But I wondered how much are you giving up???

According to the Wizard of Odds site, betting on every hand or "playing blind" results in a 7.65% house edge on the Ante bet.

The dealers tell you to 'play blind' for a reason. You aren't tipping if you are folding. Also, if you pull a miracle win from your 8 6 2 hold, you are more likely to tip the dealer.

I don't know if wizardofodds.com addressed your exact question but there probably at least some information that will help you. From what I remember of 3 card poker, you fold a lot of hands. Playing every one of those hands has to cost you a bunch.

Thanx – I had looked on his site but missed this explanation. And just as I thought – ignore most dealer suggestions!!!! Giving up 7.65% instead of 2.01% is a costly mistake when the recommended strategy is so simple.

Wizard of odds states it is Q 6 4 to hold.

Mickey, I wasn't trying to say what the correct hold is. I was trying to show that if you are dealt 8 6 2 and fold, you aren't going to tip the dealer. If you play it, and he turned over 88 or 22 or 66, you might tip him even a little more than usual for your unlikely good fortune. The more hands you play, the more likely he is to get a tip.

Of course, it was after it was sent that I realized what you were saying.
Thanks for not yelling.
