I've got a question about this Riviera promotion, which is also
highlighted in the "More Dancer" column of the latest LVA at
http://lasvegasadvisor.com/articles/articledetail.cfm?ArticleID=9881
The article claims that cashback at the Riv is 0.5% making this 5x
incentive worth 2.5% or $400 altogether on the $20K max-play
allowable under the promotion. But my understanding of the Riv is
that cashback is actually 0.25% on video poker and 0.5% for slots,
making this promotion only worth 1.25% or $200 altogether. Dancer
claims he and wife got $1000 cashback playing $5 9/6JB (239SF) -
what gives?

We found two adjacent multi-game slant-top machines including
9/6/239 JoB in the High Limit room. We played the one on the right. Each
play ($25) generated 12 or 13 points (0.5% would be 12.5 points). This
seemed strange to me as I was expecting a 0.25% slot club (which would
still be a GREAT promotion when multiplied by five). When I earned 100
points ($20,000 coin in), I checked with the booth to verify that this
represented a normal $100 payout --- and would be multiplied to the
maximum $500 by the promotion. (Had they told me I had only earned $50
normal cash which would be multiplied to $250, I would have gone back
and played an additional $20,000). When I was assured I was at the
maximum, I stopped playing and Shirley began. They also gave us a
T-shirt, baseball cap, and duffle bag for earning that many points.
In addition to the play cited in LVA, one additional play you make
with the 239 straight flush is that from AK"QJ8", you play "QJ8" in
9-6-250 JoB and AKQJ in 9-6-239 JoB.
We had short-run bad luck and didn't do well, but overall this is a
juicy play that the Riviera will soon regret and stop/change fairly
soon. If you're eligible, I recommend that you get while the getting is
good.

Thanks for the prompt response.
I just looked at both hands on BDPWP, at default 9/6 J or B values
except I put 239 for the 5 coin SFL.
I see that the QJS with no straight interference is worth a fraction
of a cent more (on a $1 denom) than the SF3's you mention.
But I get a different result on the other hand.
It shows me that QJ8S is worth 3.1767, and that Ad Kcl with Qsp JSsp
(AKQJ) is worth 2.9787.
Did I misunderstand something?

The flush has to pay 5, not 6, for QJ8s to beat AKQJ when the straight
flush pays 50 but not when it pays 239/5.
