First the question for Bob or other knowledgable person; If I play
the mixed hand mode in Video Poker for Winners is the software
exactly like a randon number generator in a Vegas Video poker
machine? The reason I ask is that I use the computer software to
better get the feel for the positive/negative swings of games like
Jacks or Better or Double Double Bonus. I have played both $25
times 5 coins and 100 way $1.00 for both games on the computer and
in Vegas and I find that I can mentally better accept the negative
swings at the casino after I have done computer simulations of
thousands of hands. That is the reason for my question of whether
the mixed hand mode of computer play is identical in all respects to
a random number generator in a Vegas machine. I don't want to
delude myself.
I am happy to report that after coming to Vegas for 7 years after I
retired at age 56, I can finally say that this year for the first
time I won more than I lost. Its not much to speak of, but for 6
trips and about 30 days of play I won a bit over $20k on Coin in
including cashback of close to $7M. This ranged from a trip win of
150K to a trip loss of 101K both playing $25 9/6 double double
bonus. I also have played $25 J or B at 9/6 and J or B and double
double at $1. on 100 way at machines at Wynn's. I also played J or
B a short while on $5 50 play in the high roller room when they have
taken off the machine stops (credit play) and you just whale away at
the machine while someone behind you marks down all the jackpots.
Try this game even at J or B if to want to get your heart started.
I have been following and participating in the Tax discussion
methods on this blog. I have all my notes and the casino printout
from Wynn and will meet with my tax accountant on the 11th. We have
been talking for six months about how to approach this as to tax
filing method. I gave him my copy of the Scott/Chen book and
excerpts of the blog discussions. He has been to a seminar where
this subject came up and has so far done Lexus/Nexus web searches.
A few comments on this year's play. While I have all the Dancer and
Dancer/ Daily plus everyone else's VP material I do not consider
myself an advantage player. I have experienced continuous losses of
over 20k for J or B and 50k for double double. I find that luck is
very critical. Knowing when to stop is critical. For example if
you get far enough ahead, put a stop loss in for a number so you
keep a fair portion of your winning. A positive machine which
doesn't exist without comps/ cashback etc. at my level of play is
not mandatory but the better paytables are certainly desirable and
you should always know the optimal play for a dealt hand even if you
choose to play other cards. Also when you get your tax summary,
know how to read it if you have a mix of Purchased Ticket, Credit
play and key to credit. The four full play machines were avoided by
the locals during the run up to New Year's day. On Jan. 2, they all
returned.
Finally a free commercial for Carol Bosshart my Wynn host and all
the high roller room personnel for taking good care of me this
year. With accruals and purchased tickets its a lot of walking
between the high limit room and the 100 way machines outside Zoo Zah
when you're playing J or B. If you're a high roller Video Poker
player, you will have a hard time finding a better place to play
than Wynn with the Tower Suites and the restaurants and the subtle
beauty like the flower arrangements. The Wynn personnel never lose
their cool even with a mercurial player like me. Thanks to all from
my wife and I for a wonderful year. Denny
