Hi Jon,
The Orleans is a great place for a lot of reasons. The FPVP they offer is
really not a reason anymore. They still have jacks and FP Double Bonus - I
think - but no more FPDW. For FPDW take the free shuttle to the Gold Coast,
walk across the street to the Palms and fire away. This is what we do when
we stay at the Orleans now. In fact, we use our comp dollars at the Palms
for most of our meals now.
You can pretty much forget a host at the Orleans doing anything for you
unless you are a pretty serious player. Lately we have been told to use our
points for comps - no more discretionary comps for food or rooms unless you
have a serious history with them. And I do mean serious history. You can
stop by the host office next to the slot club if you feel like it - but
don't expect much. Two of their gals are pretty aloof - and not real
friendly.
The good news is they now send decent free room offers for some of their
slower times, so your play may eventually get you something. Just don't
expect a lot of host "lovin" " on your initial visit!
The bar back by the slot club still has .25 DB and JB - I think. They still
had it this summer at least.
If you like bar tops then I assume you like to drink? (-; Go to Brendan's
Irish Pub and and sit at the bar. They have a blackjack game in their bar
tops that can be very rewarding. We go in and play one coin on the
blackjack and drink all the beer we can hold - and they have some pretty
upscale stuff.
Enjoy the Orleans, and next time look into someplace like Main Street for
your DW fix. Nice casino downtown, with lots of great VP. We stayed there
for the first time recently and really liked it.
If you want to learn AA then make a trip over to the Hilton and put in some
play. The AA there is located in the Spacequest casino, plus they have pick
'em, 9/6 jacks, and loose deuces back by the sports book. Just a few
thousand coin in will generate some great room offers - and their offers are
good on weekends. That is the main reason we like the place -free rooms on
the weekend at our play levels are pretty hard to come by in Vegas.
Have fun!
