I guess if you look at it that way, as a historical designation, I can go along with it a little easier.
Forest fires are an event in time and place, and that event never changes and is written in history. While a video poker paytable may first be encountered or discovered at a certain place and time, over time that location may change the paytables. I think it's a little confusing later on to have a game called "Airport Deuces" when the airport doesn't even have that paytable. Or if APDW had in fact been named "Wynn Deuces", when it only lasted there a very short time.
But at least it gives us an easy name! I prefered APDW to "Wynn Deuces", but "Almost Positive" has its own problems, namely that it's relative and non-distinguishing. I guess it's really hard to come up with a meaningful name, so naming it after it's place of first discovery is as good as any.

Well forest fires are named for the most local landmark when first
discovered. It doesn't matter if they end up being a 100 acre/one day event or
a 100,000 acre/month long disaster. The first siting in Nevada of 15/9/4/4 was at
the Vegas airport and outside Nevada on Illinios riverboat casinos. It is a
historical designation.
