15/9 NSUD and Ugly Ducks

vpFae,

Thanks for the Glossary info and Skip's post. May I humbly submit that, while I appreciate the quick action, I would rather we finish the debate and come to a consensus before you make any changes to the vpFREE paytables.

You're proposing "DW44", so let's throw that option into the ring. Personally, I don't care for that moniker. The 4-4 is only part of the distinguishing 1-2-3-4-4 versus 1-2-2-3-5; it should at least be called "DW344", but I don't really care for that either. I'm proposing using "NSU" for 1-2-3-4-4, and "DW" for 1-2-2-3-5. I'd like to see a survey giving a set of choices, and let all of our members vote on it. But lets collect a few more suggestions first, and let people post arguments for and against.

Skip's article puts to rest the issue of which paytable is "Ugly Ducks". He clearly indicates that the 1-2-3-4-4-9-15 variant *is* Ugly Ducks, so the vpFREE paytable should be changed (back) for that line, which is what it used to be about six months ago before I questioned it. That means that Ugly Ducks, Illinois Deuces, Airport Deuces, and pNSU all refer to the same thing.

The Glossary definition for UD should be changed to indicate an explicit 1-2-3-4-4-9-15 paytable variant of DW. So I have to agree with others that there is only one version of NSU (16/10), and only one UD (15/9). However, this does not preclude using NSU as a group name as well, or UD for that matter.

I appreciate everyone's input on this.

The NSUD entry in the Glossary has a link to a Skip Hughes vpFREE
post that gives some background on UD and NSUD:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/vpFREE/message/47771

On vpFREE, UD has referred to a group of games rather than to a
particular paytable.

Here's the Glossary entry for UD:

UD: Ugly Ducks (Deuces) - Deuces wild VP games with poor paytables

I've just changed the Glossary entry to:

UD: Ugly Ducks (Deuces) - Deuces wild VP games with an ER of less
than 99.0%

I've also changed the name of the "NSUD" family of deuces in vpFREE's
Paytables Directory to the "Deuces Wild 44" family (DW44):

http://members.cox.net/vpfree/PayV.htm#DW44

All DW games that pay 4 for a full house and 4 for quads (except DWdlx)
are included in this family.

vpFREE's DataBase pages now list "Airport Deuces" as "15/9 DW44".

Suggestions and comments are welcome.

My post stated that I had already changed the Glossary,
Paytables Directory and DataBase pages.

You're proposing "DW44", so let's throw that option into the ring.

"DW44" is now the official vpFREE designation. It can be
changed, and I'll run a poll if there's any significant support
for other candidates or displeasure with DW44.

Skip's article puts to rest the issue of which paytable is "Ugly
Ducks". He clearly indicates that the 1-2-3-4-4-9-15 variant
*is* Ugly Ducks ...

Skip's article gives his account of how he named a game
"ugly ducks", which I believe already had a name (and has
several names now). vpFREE has long referred to ugly ducks
as a group of games rather than to a particular paytable, and
that's the way I've most often seen it used over the years.
We can run a poll if it ever seems appropriate.
