Tax preparation software (TurboTax, e.g.) requires (or, at least,
encourages) entering each W-2G separately. During 2008, I received a
fairly large number of them from one casino. Keying in the pertinent
information from each of them will be tedious and time-consuming. Has
anyone summarized his or her W-2G's by creating only one per casino?
If yes, did you get any flack from the IRS? What date did you use?
I've searched the IRS website and "Tax Help For Gamblers" but couldn't
find my answer.
I get a stack of 1099's about 3" high all from one casino- I enter them all
as one in turbo tax and just randomly pick the info from one of them- I've
done this for 3 years now and have never been questioned by the IRS (although I
am aware it's not correct). I did get a notice when I forgot to enter 1 1099
that I received from another casino where they hand it to you with your cash
and I guess I lost it during the year. I feel that as long as you enter the
full total if they come back to you there wont' be any real issue, just some
additional paperwork. I'd be interested to hear if anyone has ever been
penalized by the IRS.
