That's an astute observation about the older machines being smooth. I
particularly noticed that about the old $.25 DDB uprights that they
got rid off. Those things were a pain to play (quite literally for
those with a bad rotator cuff or tendonitis), but their behavior was
like clockwork. Sometimes you'd lose, sometimes you'd win, but one
never felt that they were getting skinned alive at every session. Your
comment is particularly apropo for the Multi-Strikes. I used to play
Multi-Strike a lot. It was not unusual for me to play 6-10 hours
continuously on the same machine. Multi-Strike is a game of streaks,
both positive and negative. Before the midsummer software upgrade if
one played at a Multi-Strike machine for 6-10 hours you would see some
positive streaks in excess of 4 consecutive hands. In other words
you'd hit winners all the way up to the 4x line and continue with
winners for multiple iterations. Since the summer software upgrade I
rarely have had streaks in excess of 4 consecutive hands. The
difference is quite striking as the game is appreciably more "choppy".
Which brings me to your comment about programming. Dealt cards must be
random by law. There is no legally permissible middleground such as
"weighting" for these video poker games. Regarding the flush draws you
need to be careful about reaching a conclusion. It's not out of the
ordinary to have long streaks of misses. You should track how many
misses you have. Then the binomial probability equation can be used to
see if the behavior might be fishy. The next question would be is it
fishy on every playing session? Remember, a large number of hands
needs to be played.
Unfortunately I'm philosophically opposed to paying any kind of fee to
enter a casino. So as long as Illinois casinos have fees they won't
see me. If I continue to get fed up with the state of MS vp affairs I
may do what some other posters have done already, namely give up
playing locally entirely and save all my money for my Vegas and Reno
trips.

may i add a coment. i have played video poker for about 30 years,
mostly 9/6 jacks. i go to vegas every couple of months. also hit a
boat once a week.
i had played at majestic star for a couple of years. was at a super
star level. about a year ago they put in some new machines to replace
the old uprights on the middle level. i liked the old machines. you
could put a $20 in and play for hours. they played in a way i would
call smooth. the new machines seemed to eat up $20's. i can't say
these machines are rigged, maybe they are just programed differently.
but when i can play 9/6 jacks for two hours and never fill in a four
to a flush, somethings wrong.
i still hit the majestic star once in a while, but only to play pai
gow poker.
may i suggest the empress in joliet for video poker. they have some
good games at the $1 level. they also have nsud at 25 cent, 50 cent
and $1.

I'm not sure why you persist in twisting this when I've made things
crystal clear on numerous occasions. Unlike you most people are
incapable of epithanies leading to the faith that all machines are
legit. Most reasonable people follow some form of "trust but verify".
At first they'll just notice some bad luck. They may experience more
bad luck, but are not deterred because they realize they're not on
solid statistical ground yet. But bad luck doesn't go on for ever. At
some point it will cease to be bad luck. The evidence for something
other than bad luck builds as more hands are played. And that's the
key, hands have to be played. And that's exactly what I've been doing.
