You can count on any article that leads off with terms like "math
geeks" and "advantage players" to be full of misperceptions.
Most active players will tell you from experience that strong
paytables have greater likelihood of producing winning sessions or at
least ones with modest lossess. In the case of more negative
paytables, casino play tends toward higher variance games, where such
variance is necessary to give a reasonable probability of a positive
session (with substantial downside risk).
Ultimately, "positive" games have high probability of positive
outcomes than negative ones. A sufficient bankroll is necessary to
see a player through the variance of play at any given denomination.
It's my suspicion that players who refuse what most active players
accept as common sense have approached play with insufficient bankrolls.
If you have any doubts about this, extensive simulation of play
sessions with a product such as Frugal Video Poker will drive home the
point.

Harry,
Well stated. Just who is this Ron Fortune guy? Seems like he has some
kind of agenda based on this ridiculous article.

Which two.... because the "Don't be a sucker to payback!" article was a
real dog. The guy obviously has no understanding of the mathematic
priciples that "math geeks" and "advantage players" apply to gambling in
general and video poker specifically. You just can't disprove the long term
probability by pointing out that there are, or will be, disparate session
results. No knowlegeable vp player has ever said the long term probability
will mirror any short term trial... Quite the opposite, in fact. Even a
math troglodyte like me understands this.

both articles made for interesting reading... i am not
a professional at this... i am a teacher who enjoys
playing and reading about vp...i play often and use
what is said here to improve my game...but i keep in
mind that this is for enjoyment and not to earn a
living.i try to play positive machines, but due to
where i live and the casiono i frequent, at times it
is difficult to do so.
