10 play less volatile than single

I have heard multi line games are more volatile than single lines. I
was thinking though; compared to 50 cent to $5 games. It came to me
that if someone is playing a 10 play fifty cent play it might be a
less volatile game than playing a single line game at 5 bucks a coin.
The total bet being $25 for one play on each game. However, the 10
play draw might smooth out the ups and downs at the same $$ bet. Of
course the only way one can score a $20,000 hit on 10 play is with a
dealt royal. So, the big payday is probably a long way off.

I just wondered if I got this right?

If someone says "multi line games are more volatile than single line",
then they are talking about comparing a multi-line and single-line
game of the same denomination.

A multi-line game will be less volatile than a single line game which
has the same cost per play, as in the example you gave. You have it
right.
