"The people at Alamo are the worst. Repeatedly harping on you to add
coverage. The last time I told them to cut it out and they refused!"
I agree that they try all sorts of games to get you to buy insurance,
upgrade to a bigger car, etc. I found a solution that seems to work just
fine....use the kiosk's and avoid human interaction all together. If you get to
the lot and they don't have what you want (they don't assign you a specific
car; just a specific class of car), simply ask the lot attendant for
something else. In many cases, this has been a free upgrade.
I use Advantage as well but there's no avoiding a line which at times is
minimal but at others, it's horrendous. In my experience, they play the same
insurance game as Alamo. I just opt to check rates for all of them and go
with the lowest.
Almost all of the rental car companies have loyalty plans that you can join
for free and at minimum this allows you to bypass the standard longer
lines and also has your profile stored so that they shouldn't bother asking you
silly questions when you've already specified in your profile that you
don't want insurance, will return the car full, etc.
