$10 per day weekend rates

Sorry the rates were on another site ( Gary Leff's View From The Wing Blog ) and it is an Alamo discount corporate code 7015238. The code is supposed to be current !

The people at Alamo are the worst. Repeatedly harping on you to add coverage. The last time I told them to cut it out and they refused!

The people at Advantage are very nice and can beat even price from Fox which sucks but is always the cheapest.

Try Advantage: http://advantage.com

I use the kiosk whenever possible. I have posted recently about Contract IDs and Coupon Codes.

Exactly WP. I don't even think it requires being a Quicksilver member anymore (though I still recommend this easy - and free - membership)

For those locations without a kiosk I simply say, "As stated in my profile..return full, decline all coverage" when the clerk starts in on pimping the insurance/fuel option. If they start the hard sell, then I repeat those exact words. After the second time they typically get the hint....

If you PRE-register and use the Alamo self-serve machines to check-in
you don't have to deal with a real person and it's much faster, too!

Hockeystl and WP both offer good advice on rental cars. If Advantage will match Payless rates ( typically the cheapest), then that might be a very good play. Payless will lie right to your face about prepay gas options, insurance and upgrades but they have the cheapest rates. They also have 46 BBB complaints against them in the last 3 years ( yes I am 2.17% of that group). I haven't used Advantage before but if they will match a Payless rate and not be quite as blood thirsty about upgrades, that is a pretty good option.

From my experience, the smaller places, Payless, Fox, Ace, etc. will have older vehicles with a lot of miles on them. If that's important to you, stick with the big names.

REPLY: With Alamo, at least in LV, if you check in online and print your contract, you may go directly from the shuttle bus to your car, thus avoiding both the counter clerks and the kiosk. As someone else has posted, if Alamo doesn't have your specified car size, the attendant in the parking ramp will give a free upgrade. I have a Quicksilver ID#, but I think that the online check-in option is available to anyone. Please verify that if you're not already QS.

Also with Alamo, I usually prepay when I reserve to get a 10% discount. I risk a few hundred $ by doing that, but with a 10% edge on the wager, I'm willing to fade the risk that I'll decide to cancel.
